Job Description

The Mission of the Sioux YMCA is to develop and strength the children and families in our reservation communities so they can fulfill their greatest individual and collective potential spiritually, mentally, and physically. The role of the Assistant Camp Director is two-fold, working primarily at the summer resident camp, YMCA Camp Marrowbone, and working in the schools and reservation communities to promote and enhance the work of the Y.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Age: 21
  • BA in related field or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of practices, procedures, and activities as they relate to youth development
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
  • Ability to manage and prioritize many different tasks and responsibilities
  • Ability to be solution-oriented and a self-starter
  • Ability to assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating programs both independently and as a part of team
  • Ability to role model the character values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility

Essential Functions

Work with the Camp Director to:

  • Interface with school and community leaders to promote the Sioux Y movement and Camp. Ensure high-quality programs. Expand offerings in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with school administration, family groups, and other organizations and agencies related to camp. Respond to all inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate program statistics and records related to attendance, income, participation, impact and more. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of each program.
  • Assist in overseeing, coordinating, and participating in events such as community dinners, holiday events, evening and weekend programming such as girls/boys night, field trips, Saturday Fun Clubs, leadership trainings and conferences.
  • Communicate with the whole staff team to promote the same vision of success for every participant.
  • Assist in building a strong camp culture through the core values of the Y, leadership, and intentional programming.
  • Provide for the upkeep and maintenance of assigned program facilities and equipment.
  • Assist in developing the camp budget and ensuring that camp operates within budget.
  • Recruit, train, and develop personnel. Review and evaluate staff performances. Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.

Required Certifications

Must acquire within 6 months of hire if not already possessing current certification:

  • Commercial Driver's License with Airbrake Endorsement
  • CPR/First Aid
