Camp Description

Serving seventeen reservation communities the Camp Director has a lot of driving to do. There is outreach in the tribal schools during the school year, and preparing and running Camp Marrowbone during the summer. Our camp is isolated in the Great Plains hidden in the hills. It's waterfront is Lake Oahe, a part of the Missouri River. We are a small camp with strong community ties.

Job Description

  • Responsible for all aspects of Camp Marrowbone in coordination with CEO
  • Design and deliver outreach programs in remote communities on the Cheyenne River Reservation

Qualifications

  • Minimum age of 21
  • Four year college degree in recreation non-profit organizations, or related field.
  • Upon hire, completion of or proof of YMCA provided First Aid and CPR certification
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children or in a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience supervising personnel
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of practices, procedures, activities, and programs as they relate to youth/child camping.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Must agree to a background check and drug and alcohol testing
  • Must be able to lift 35 lbs.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee the daily activities, general camp operations, and programs to ensure a quality camp.
  • Responsible for the development of programming, staff hiring, training and supervision of camp staff.
  • Assist in preparing a budget for camp and in the fundraising for the camp.
  • Work with special events, promotions, and any other special needs as they arise.
  • Ensure the maintenance of accurate program and administrative records.
  • Ensure that the camp is kept clean, organized, and free of litter.
  • Be responsible for knowing, understanding, and executing all camp policies and emergency procedures associated with the camp.
  • Interact effectively with the camp staff as a total system, with campers’ best interests in mind.
  • Be a leader in parent communication and address parent concerns in a timely manner.
  • Seek the help of the CEO when necessary.
  • Coordinate the various administrative tasks necessary for camp to run efficiently.
  • Assist with the posting of activities and photos on the Sioux YMCA website.
  • Communicate regularly with the CEO and camp staff and interact regularly with campers, staff, and parents.
  • Help promote and organize community activities during the off-camp-season months.
  • Help recruit, select, train, and supervise volunteers for program activities.
  • Provide opportunities for training and development of all volunteers.
  • Provide technical aids and other resources for volunteers to effectively carry out their responsibilities.
  • Use existing resources to implement cultural and environmental activities at camp and in the communities.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate program and statistical records required by the Sioux YMCA, the YMCA of the USA, and regulatory agencies.
  • Create material for interpretation and promotion of programs.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with school personnel, other agency staff, and community leaders.
  • Assure continuing professional growth through reading, studying, conference attendance, etc.
  • Know and follow the established financial and business procedures of the Sioux YMCA.
  • Inspect the facilities, property, and equipment used for programs and through cooperation with other staff, ensure high standards of maintenance, cleanliness, safety, and repair.
  • Represent the Sioux YMCA and actively participate in kindred organizations in the community.

$35,568.00

Other Compensation

· Health coverage: 80% YMCA/20% Camp Director (Director must secure own health insurance with a cap of $3,000 per year paid by Sioux YMCA)

· Retirement: 12% YMCA retirement per two years employed by YMCA/vested policy

Housing: housing year round is provided
