Job Description

The Olympic Peninsula YMCA isseeking an Executive Director to lead the YMCA of Sequim.

Sequim is a retirement community with a population of 6,600. Located on the Strait of Juan de Fuca on the north coast of Washington State near the baseof the Olympic Mountains. Sequim is about two hours away from the metropolitan cities ofSeattle, Tacoma, and Olympia and is a gateway to the Olympic Peninsula and its numeroustourist and recreation attractions.Sequimreceives on average less than 16 inches of rain per year andhas won numerous awards as a great place to live and retire.

The YMCA is collaborating with Olympic Medical Center to offer on-site rehabilitation and wellness services with the potential for tremendous growth.

Under the direction and in consultation with the CEO, the Executive Director is responsible for all branch decision making and operations including driving the financial development strategy, community engagement, business operations, facility management, human resources, membership, and program/membership services of the Branch in accordance with the policies, by-laws and constitution of the Olympic Peninsula YMCA.This position reports to and is accountable to the Olympic Peninsula CEO.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in human services, social services, business or equivalent. YMCA Multi-Team or Branch Leadercertification preferred. Management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency is necessary. Prior experience in a membership/customer service-based business strongly preferred.


  • Superior communication skills- both written and verbal. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals effectively and clearly. Excellent vendor and customer relations skills required.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of the nature of the YMCA movement, volunteers and staff in the accomplishments of the YMCA goals, objectives and mission in the community.
  • Possess a concern for detail and accuracy and have the ability to delegate responsibility.
  • Must be highly motivated and possess a positive attitude towards the YMCA, character development and our mission.

Essential Functions


  • Board & Financial Development- Drive all fundraising and financial development initiatives in the community.
  • Directs the Annual Campaign to fund the mission-related work of the branch.
  • Community engagement- Enhance the Y’s participation in the community and recruit committed volunteers. Recruits, maintains and engages a productive Board of Advisors.
  • Staff Development- Direct responsibility and supervision for a branch staff team. Direct reports include; Lifeguard Coordinator, Membership Coordinator, Health & Well Being Program Coordinator, Wellness Center Coordinator and Facilities Coordinator.
  • Develops, manages, and monitors the branch operating budget and meet or exceeds budget targets.
  • Directs branch strategic planning efforts and develops the annual operating plan of the branch.
  • Works with branch staff on a timely basis to correct financial deficiencies.
  • Participates in the monthly association leadership meetings and disseminates information discussed to branch staff.
  • Provides solutions for Branch specific and/or Association-wide challenges.
  • Develops and directs high-quality relationship-based member engagement strategies. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions with staff, volunteers, members, and the community.

  • Fosters a climate of innovation to develop member-focused programs which support the Y mission, goals, and strategies.

  • Ensures the safety and maintenance of high-quality facilities, grounds, and equipment.

  • Directs branch marketing and communication efforts to effectively communicate benefit to the community.

  • Serves as a member of Y management and supports the overall objectives of the YMCA.

  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Required Certifications

CPR & First Aid certification within 30 days of hire, Child Abuse Prevention, YMCA Multi-Team or Branch Leader certification preferred.
