Renewing a Partnership
Members of the Casco Bay Branch of the YMCA of Southern Maine wanted to reinstate a formerly successful partnership between the Y and the American Red Cross Maine Division. The partnership is a natural fit; the Y has the facility and a membership base of service-minded individuals. The Red Cross Maine division snapped into action, providing the guidance and expertise to Y member volunteers for a successful and rewarding service project.
One Pint of Blood Can Save up to Three Lives
Eighty percent of blood donations given to the Red Cross are collected at blood drives set up at community organizations. For this one, six member volunteers helped run the blood drive over five hours. Thirty Y members and community members donated 24 units of blood. This project was a great success in terms of brining in new donors. Though the Red Cross hopes for one new donor with each drive, this one brought in eight.
