Back Pack Attack Story
"My favorite part of the program was seeing the look on the kids' faces when they received the supplies, but, more than that, it was a result of knowing that people out there love and care for them."

Off on the Right Foot
At the beginning of July the YMCA of Southwest Illinois kicked off our annual Backpack Attack. This initiative is led by various members throughout each of our YMCA communities. In order to get kids off to school on the right foot, YMCA members and volunteers with the support of local businesses organized back-to-school events and a large school supply drive. A few events included back-to-school haircuts, properly fitting shoes and of course a backpack filled with the all-important school supplies.
A Simple Project to Make a Big Difference
Thirty member volunteers began soliciting donations from local communities on July 1, and by August 10th, had collected over 14,000 individual items which they then sorted and presented to over 480 kids in Madison, St.Clair and Monroe Counties. All participating children attended the back-to-school fair, got their faces painted and received an age-appropriate backpack filled with school supplies.
