YMCA of the USA Board of Directors Elects New Chair
Nonprofit's national board also announces new officers and board members for the 2018-2020 term 

CHICAGO, (April 2, 2018)— YMCA of the USA (Y-USA) is pleased to announce the election of Matt Hyde to a two-year term as Chairman of the nonprofit’s national board of directors. Mr. Hyde, the former President and CEO of West Marine, will provide leadership to the 25-member board, which sets strategic direction and policy to guide the Y’s work to strengthen community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

 In addition, the Y-USA board elects:

  • Board Chair-Elect: Pamela Davies, Ph.D., President, Queens University of Charlotte
  • Treasurer: Carla Moradi, Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, HUB International
  • Secretary: Janice Ellig, CEO, The Ellig Group, LLC
  • Board Member: Kevin Bolding, President and CEO, YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh
  • Kellogg Board Fellow: Ryan O’Byrne, student, Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management
  • Current Board Members to Term Extensions (2018-2020): John Baird, Ph.D., Principal Partner, ExecutivEdge of Silicon Valley; David Barahona, Senior Finance Manager – Sustainability, PepsiCo, Inc.; Jed Bernstein, President, Above the Title Entertainment; Jennie Carlson, Executive Vice President of Human Resources, U.S. Bancorp; Wright Lassiter III, President and CEO, Henry Ford Health System

Board Chair: Matt Hyde is the former President and CEO of West Marine, the largest specialty retailer of boating supplies and accessories in the world. He previously was Executive Vice President of Merchandising and Marketing for Recreational Equipment Inc. (REI), where he oversaw the brand gear and apparel business and managed the cooperative's other brand merchandising, inventory management, social compliance, marketing, public affairs and e‑commerce functions. Mr. Hyde also led REI's online division, championing its award-winning multichannel strategy.

Board Member: Kevin Bolding is a seasoned senior executive leader with 20 years of progressive impact in urban, suburban and corporate communities. He has a successful track record of engaging community support, recruiting and developing diverse staff and volunteer teams at all levels of the organization, and driving measurable outcomes to show organizational impact in the community. Mr. Bolding has served in his current role since June 2016. Previously, he served as the COO and District Vice President in Pittsburgh and held leadership positions at the YMCA of South Florida and YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit. He served on the boards of Bridgeway Capital, Greater Pittsburgh Nonprofit Partnership and the Carnegie Museum of Natural History.

 Kellogg Board Fellow: Ryan O’Byrne is a former professional hockey player and member of the National Hockey League Players’ Association Executive Board. He is also the founder and President of the Ryan O’Byrne Charity Camp, which facilitates an annual five-day hockey camp for 60 underprivileged children ages 9 to 12 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
