How a YMCA Music Class has Become a 'Life Changing' Opportunity for Erie Teens

A handful of teens in Erie, Pennsylvania helped create a score that was performed by the Erie Philharmonic orchestra, thanks to music classes they took at the the YMCA of Greater Erie. 

On November 26, teens from the program and their instructor, Corey Cook, were featured on Good Morning America (GMA) and one of the talented musicians appeared live on GMA Day to perform his original song that he composed at the YMCA of Greater Erie's Teen Center. The YMCA Battles Youth Hunger by Providing Millions of Free, Nutritious Meals to Teens and Children Across the Country

Hunger is a very real problem for millions of children across the U.S. Since 2011, the YMCA has step up to alleviate this issue through a partnership with the Walmart Foundation — first, with its Summer Food Program, and in 2012, the Afterschool Meal Program. These programs are important for food-insecure communities because hunger can have detrimental effects on a child’s development. The Y is able to implement these successful programs with the help of numerous partnerships it has forged with community organizations across the country.
