Show A Little Gratitude

I was hanging out with a friend recently, and we were catching up on what was going on in each other’s lives. I talked about what was going well, but I soon began to discuss what wasn’t. I whined about how hard being a mom is and how I have too much to do and not enough time. I went on and on about it, and she stopped me and said, “I need you to show more gratitude." more

Volunteer Opportunity: Healthy Kids Day®

Spring is officially here, which means the end of school's nearing for millions of kids across the country. But here's a fact: children are more likely to gain weight and fall behind in in studies when summer hits. As a volunteer for Healthy Kids Day®, you can help youth in your neighborhood celebrate the Y's national initiative to improve health and the well-being of kids all year long. Check out these vids if it helps give you any inspiration to embrace your spirit of social responsibility.  more

The Age of Entitlement

Many of us have been there. As children, we often want what we want when we want it. I was an unusually considerate child growing up (my mom’s words, not  mine), so I didn’t gripe much about not getting material things. But like most kids and teens past and present, I whined about washing dishes or taking out the trash, I watched way too much TV and generally felt like I should be able to do what I wanted.  more

World Sight Day: A Member's Story

World Sight Day focuses global attention on blindness and vision impairment. Did you know that more than 280 million people worldwide live with low vision or blindness? While the goal is to create awareness to prevent this condition, it's often a disability many people have to live with long-term. Today, we want to share a story about one of our volunteers at the Y, Jeff, who's not letting his lack of vision slow him down from giving back to the community.  more

Leadership that Starts at Home

You have a voice. So does Ana. This is her Y. Her words. Her story.

When we picture leaders, we tend to imagine them in politics or in the business setting, maybe in the schools or at universities or in the sports fields… But do we ever think of the home as a place that needs leaders as well?  more
