It's Who You Hang Around With

This week, we posted some tips on how to network with others, based on the idea that it's who you know. Well, as you're building your network of friends and ties, think about this: when it comes to your health, does who you hang around with matter?  more

Great Minds Don't Just Think Alike...

... they stick to a daily routine. Apparently, When Mozart wasn't writing masterpieces, he was giving music lessons during the day. Freud, no suprise here, treated patients. And Pablo Picasso famously said, "Our goals can only be reached through a vehicle of a plan, in which we must fervently believe, and upon which we must vigorously act. There is no other route to success.” more

Eat Smart, Move More

A couple of weeks ago, our first guest blogger, Lisa Riggsbee, shared her thoughts about the Healthy Living Pantry and Mobile Kitchen. This week, we wanted to follow up with what young leaders are doing out in Asheville, North Carolina with an Eat smart, Move More Videomore

Making the Most of Living in a 12 x 12 Box

Maybe it's your new dorm room. Maybe it's living in a city like New York or Paris. Maybe you dream of moving out one day and find yourself living in a 129 square-foot apartment. Step Away from the Screen!

Last week was Screen-Free Week. I didn’t notice because my eyes were on the prize: Mother’s Day, the best day of all.

Now that the mommy merriment has simmered down, I’m catching up on other things discussed in Internetland, which (paradoxically) included Screen-Free Week.

Parents are forced to think about screens from the start. There are clear reasons to turn off screens. more

Why Aren't You Getting Outdoors?

"The millennial generation is... more disconnected from nature than any generation before."

This from a recent press conference with U.S. Secretary of the Interior, Sally Jewell.

Not that our great country is lacking opportunities for a little outdoor recreation. Maybe it's just that we need to be reminded of what's out there and to look up from our smart phones and tablets every once in a while. more

Necessity, the Mother of Invention

I have hippy tendencies that bob to the surface but are usually whack-a-moled by my competing love of convenience. Communal living tiny houses (now with movement status), minimal personal hygiene (this one gets tempered pretty quickly by The Spouse and lingering looks from strangers), and a macrobiotic diet have all been suppressed for now. more more

View from the Top

This past summer, young leaders from all around the world gathered at the YMCA Europe Youth Festival in Prague. One of the main attractions was a giant tree house where everyone gathered to hang out, exchange ideas, and - for some lucky folks - camp out for the night thirty feet above the ground. Throughout the festival, the buzz about this clubhouse in the sky was that it was not only a great place to create a community in the treetops but also a good place to relax, unwind, and meditate. While the tree house in the Czech Republic has come and gone, here are a few other places around the world worth checking out.  more
