Should we be allowed to choose our own titles?

Captain of Moonshots. Godmother of Wishes. These are just a few people you could be working with in the near future. If you believe rethinking your moniker on the job is pushing creativity to the max, then what do you think about these inventive titles? more

The Origin of Selfies (And Why You Should Care)

If you're a Millennial that's, say, 18 or 19, then selfies have been a part of your life experience since forever. But where did they come from? Well, we can thank the (got to click on the post to find out!) for giving us the word, and - in fact - the first appearance of the word surfaced in one of the country's online news channels around 2002.

Helping Each Other Out

fashioncurves a.k.a Lisa recently posted this message to our Forum boards: "Need a work out partner." We love seeing when friends from around the country help each other out, especially alyssav1982 and our very own Y storyteller, Leslie Hejnal (who has an amazing story herself!). As young leaders, it's important to build communities both on and offline. Take a moment to browse through our forums and - if you have a chance - show a little support for Lisa/fashioncurves and post whatever's on your mind too.

In My Tribe

A few years ago author and solutionary, Seth Godin, offered something for us to think about in one of his books about community: as blogs and social media channels are connecting us together and at fervent pace and at an exponential rate, we're creating online tribes that are getting bigger and bigger, upwards in the tens of thousands and into the millions. But every tribe has a visionary and someone to take charge of the ideas that link us together. So, when it comes to the awesome, thrilling, ever-changing being that is the Web, who's going to step up and lead?  more

Why Aren't You Getting Outdoors?

"The millennial generation is... more disconnected from nature than any generation before."

This from a recent press conference with U.S. Secretary of the Interior, Sally Jewell.

Not that our great country is lacking opportunities for a little outdoor recreation. Maybe it's just that we need to be reminded of what's out there and to look up from our smart phones and tablets every once in a while. more

You Have a Voice.

In the next few months, we're giving you - our young leaders - a chance to share your thoughts on topics ranging from education & leadership to sports & recreation to travel & entertainment as well as speaking up on issues such as bullying, illiteracy, hunger prevention, multiculturalism, and more. If you're interested in raising your voice and becoming a volunteer guest blogger for This Week in Young Leaders, then let's get you writing some inspiring words, putting together a photo essay, or sharing a short "do-it-yourself" video (think mini-docs or a sixty-second selfie) about what's on your mind these days. more

FOMO vs. JOLL

So, if we have to tell you what that means, then you probably have a good handle on your Facebook feed and your Instagram binges in check. For the rest of us, FOMO often stands in the way of getting out there and getting connected with real friends and real live scenery. What's the cure for FOMO? We don't have a scientific answer, but why not give JOLL a try?

Passion, Relationships, Expertise

A recent article from the Case Foundation suggests that young leaders today are motived to be cause-driven members of the community by three top factors: "passion, meeting people, and enhancing their expertise." What does this mean for the Millennials who are just joining or are already members of the Y? more
