Why Can’t We Be Friends?

Growing up, I didn't view my mom and I as friends. We didn’t have inside jokes or share deep, dark secrets the way I did with some of my school  friends. The way I saw it, she was firmly a provider and disciplinarian. It was a source of frustration to be because I remember having friends who did seem to be BFFs with their moms and dads. It was not my experience, but I knew it was possible.  more

Gifting and Receiving

This was my first Christmas as a mother and I must admit, it felt a little weird. I’ve always taken great pride in my gift giving abilities. You know, being able to know exactly what my loved ones want and waiting to see their excited faces as they opened their presents.  more

Going for the Goal

Another year is about to come to a close and many of us are left wondering where  the time has gone. Every year I’m left wondering why I didn’t accomplish more. The answer may not be the same for everyone, but in my case, I know that I have to create measurable goals.  more

Middle School Blues

That feeling is all too familiar. Sitting at a desk with those hard plastic or wooden chairs for almost an hour, attempting to contort your body into a semi-comfortable position. That’s middle school for you.

Being Intentional

I used to work a full-time corporate job as a web developer. It was never my plan to have that job, it just kind of happened. While I don’t regret that entry on my resume, it never really felt right. For years I fought the uneasy feeling that it wasn’t the career for me. The money was good and I liked my co-workers, so I decided I would just make do.  more

An Apple a Day

It seems like there's a new miracle superfruit popping up everywhere these days. Açaí, anyone? I picked up some baby food for my daughter last week and I found one that was made with aronia berry. I had never even heard of that! I had to look it up when I got home. more

Blissful Ignorance?

I’m an avid researcher and Googler, so I’ve surprised myself with the extent I avoid reading about parenting in relation to my own child. I don’t live in a special mom bubble where I don’t let any information in. However, I tend to avoid any and all parenting books if I can help it. more

Good Intentions

To judge other parents and how they raise their children is unfair, but often second nature. It’s oh so simple to say how you would have handled something when you are an outsider looking in. Well, I’m here to apologize to every parent i’ve silently judged or thrown an all-knowing glance in their direction.  more

15 Things

In honor of the upcoming new year, I thought of 15 things I’d share with my younger self. I’ll also pass some on to my daughter when she’s old enough, though she may just roll her eyes at me and say, “Moooommmm!" more
