Daycare Prep

So you’ve found the perfect daycare for your child—congratulations! Going to daycare marks a major milestone in most children’s lives. It is an important and exciting change, but can also be a source of anxiety. With proper preparation and planning, the transition can go more smoothly for parent and child.

The Baby & Toddler Hotel Primer

Maya and I have tagged along on her dad's business trip, and I’m currently writing this blog post from a hotel room in Peoria, Illinois. I have a love/hate relationship with traveling with my daughter. On one hand, the change of scenery is a good thing. On the other, a strange room and a break from routine can be a recipe for disaster.

Try A Little Tenderness

In a world that’s often unfriendly to new moms and their babies, it’s heartwarming when you hear stories from the other side. By now you’ve likely heard about the professor who taught his class while holding his student’s baby.

Think Pink

When I was a child, I wasn’t very fond of pink. I was a tomboy through and through. Though my mom bought me Barbies, I preferred playing video games or pretending I had just won WrestleMania with my brother’s action figures. There was nothing pink about me.

No Such Thing as Normal

My daughter had her 12-month pediatrician visit yesterday and like all of the appointments before it, I was a little nervous. Check-up visits as a mom feel a lot like getting a report card of progress report. Maybe I’m overthinking this, but it feels a lot like being graded.

The More the Merrier

As the old saying goes, “It takes a village to raise a child." I can think of no truer words since I’ve become a mom. It also takes a village to throw a 1-year-old’s birthday party (in my case).

The Resilience of Youth

Proud mama alert: My 11-month-old baby girl has recently taken her first steps! While extremely exciting, this development has opened up a whole new world of hurtliterally. In the few days that she has officially been walking, she’s had two scary tumbles.

Reality vs. Fiction

Parenting is challenging. Not finding the solution to world peace challenging, but more like…it’s actually near impossible to explain unless you’ve experienced it. I read a quote that said, "Having a baby is like losing your leg and winning the lottery.” I immediately understood.
