Springfield College

Springfield CollegeThe first institution of higher learning organized by the YMCA national organization was the School for Christian Workers in Springfield, Mass. Later known as the International YMCA Training School and finally as Springfield College, the School was to train Y workers in all aspects of business and management.

YMCA of the USA and Springfield College share a unique heritage and history dating back to Springfield's earliest days. In 1885, the School for Christian Workers held its first classes in the Armory Hill (Springfield) YMCA. Shortly thereafter, the College became the YMCA Training School and attracted the attention of YMCA workers from around the world.

For over one hundred years, both institutions have evolved and grown in the practical application of the Humanics Philosophy, which espouses a belief in the balanced development of the spiritual, mental and physical aspects of each person.

Today, the partnership between the Y and Springfield College is stronger than ever. A broad range of educational programs at the graduate and undergraduate levels are offered on the main campus in Springfield. The college also provides educational opportunities for degree programs at a number of remote campuses around the country through the School of Human Services.
