Job Description:

The Y is a cause-driven organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. As we continue our rich legacy of providing child care, camp, aquatics, wellness and senior programs and services for 160 years in the DC Metropolitan area, we are currently seeking a detail-oriented, engaging and energetic Communications Associate. This position reports to the Director of Communications.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Serves as the "mission reporter" by establishing relationships and collecting impact stories, photos and videos for various formats
  • Oversees research and development for programmatic newsletters and surveys, as well as day-to-day posting on the blog
  • Assists with key writing needs, such as press releases, social media outreach and announcements
  • Serves as the liaison between Association departments and branches, ensuring all operations and public image goals are met through PR efforts and messaging is compliant with brand guidelines
  • Assists in promotion and planning of Association-wide events and key branch events
  • The ideal candidates will have a Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, or Marketing; Minimum of two years experience working in a professional communications environment; Outgoing personality; Strong verbal and written skills; Must be adept at getting members, volunteers, and staff to share their stories; Editing and proofreading skills; Ability to work on several assignments at once with changing priorities and tight deadlines; Ability to work in a fast paced, changing environment; Ability to work some weekends, as needed, as well as long hours when on deadline for a project; Ability to travel to YMCA branches; Ability to multi-task; Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time.

Salary: $43,000 - $43,000
