Job Description:

GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Branch Executive, the Aquatics Director manages the operations and programs of the Aquatics Department in accordance with the purposes and policies set forth by the Association.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

MANAGES all aquatic programs, with the exception of the swim team, including but not limited to; public swim, lifeguarding, swim instruction, and special events. CONDUCTS lifeguard courses according to the annual schedule. May also lifeguard, teach swim lessons, clean and vacuum pools, restrooms and surrounding areas and assist with other programs as needed.

PROMOTES aquatic safety, maintenance standards and guidelines as outlined by the YMCA while maintaining code regulations.

SUPERVISES up to 25 staff during open swim and aquatics programming. SCHEDULES staff maintaining proper ratios in addition to following budgeted guidelines for staffing.

OVERSEES collection of depositing of daily cash revenue. PROVIDES timely reports.

REVIEWS and EVALUATES the enrollment, programs and services of the Aquatics Department and communicates findings to the Branch Executive.

DIRECTS the personnel and volunteers of the department in their respective responsibilities. TRAINS staff with safety as the over riding association objective. IMPLEMENTS weekly in-services during summer months. CONDUCTS and DOCUMENTS routine drills.

RECRUITS, RETAINS and RECOGNIZES aquatic staff and volunteers.

EMPLOYS non-exempt staff; full and part time, within approved budget provisions.

REVIEWS effectiveness of employed personnel and volunteers; OBSERVES individual performance; and APPRAISES its effectiveness.

PROMOTES and IMPLEMENTS character development in all curriculum, training and supervision.

BUILDS and MAINTAINS a high standard of customer service for all members.

PERFORMS all other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma; some college is preferred; a minimum of three (3) years experience in aquatic setting plus one (1) year supervisory experience.

CERTIFICATIONS:

  1. Certification as a YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard (required)

  2. Certification as a YMCA or American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (required)

  3. Certification as a YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (preferred-must be obtained within months of employment)

  4. CPR for the professional rescuer (includes AED) Certification (required)

  5. First Aid Certification (required)

  6. Oxygen Certification (required)

Salary: $28,000 - $36,000
