YMCA: YMCA of Roanoke Valley

Job Description:

The YMCA of Roanoke Valley is in search of a Director of Competitive Swimming. This is a full time position that includes competitive benefits.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Director of Competitive Swimming will provide leadership in instructional areas of competitive swimming according to the YMCA aquatic policy while maintaining a safe environment.
  • The Director of Competitive Swimming will also follow the YMCA philosophy of developing a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all while upholding and supporting the mission of the YMCA.
  • This position will cultivate relationships with area programs, including high schools, summer and YMCA leagues, USA and Virginia Swimming.
  • Candidates must have the ability to effectively communicate with a diverse group of participants, parents, YMCA employees and volunteers and have the ability to do so within YMCA parameters.
  • Candidates must have experience in developing young swimmers, managing assistant coaches, planning and conducting practices, planning a season, as well as developing and achieving a budget.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college, or comparable course work and experience preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of competitive swimming, physics of swimming and stroke mechanics, dry-land development, and USA Swimming and National YMCA swimming rules.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of coaching experience, head coaching experience required.
  • A demonstrated proficiency with Hy-tek software, as well as Microsoft Office required.
  • ASCA Certification, USA and YMCA swim coaches' credentials, and YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving Certification required.

Salary: $25,813 - $38,584
