Job Description:

Job Title: Aquatics Director

Branch: Owasso

Reports to: Executive Director FLSA

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Sr. Director and in accordance with the principles of the YMCA, the Aquatics Director will administer all functions related to the Aquatics Department with a direct focus on safety, recruitment of participants, program development, program retention, membership retention, staff development and customer service. Exemplifying the "Y" values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility is expected.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS)
  • Strong human relation skills
  • Minimum 2 years experience working in Aquatics Programming
  • Volunteer or Staff supervision experience
  • Knowledge of aquatics programming & safety issues

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of budgeting & expense control
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Basic understanding of the nature of the YMCA as a membership organization
  • Bilingual - English/Spanish
  • Current CPR/AED/First Aid/O2 Certification6
  • Current YMCA Lifeguard and YMCA Lifeguard Instructor Certification
  • Experience teaching swim lessons

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Fiscal Management: Budgeting for all areas of responsibility, expense control, and income generation.

Program Development: Swim Lessons, Water Aerobics, Member Swims, Active Older Adult programs, Branch safety, Rental groups, new member programs, and other aquatic related activities and programs.

Supervision / Staff Development: Recruit, train, supervise, and retain staff. Take leadership role in training association Aquatics staff.

Financial Development: Staff leadership role in Strong Kids Campaign, community grants & other funding sources

Volunteer Development: Recruit, train, supervise, and retain volunteers

Safety / Risk Management: Maintenance and cleanliness of areas of use & all equipment, follow association policies and guidelines. Branch safety drills & documents.

Marketing: Annual promotion plan for all program areas including flyers, brochures, website, newsletter, news releases, advertisements, etc.

Quality: Meet requirements for quality standards at the YMCA of Greater Tulsa.

Certification Requirements: Obtain YMCA aquatics certifications within 12 months of hire. Obtain Trainer Level certifications within 18 months of hire.

Physical Requirements: High level of concentration and aptitude for learning wide variety of program information and new computer applications; Physically able to sit or stand during lifeguard shifts, make all needed rescues, instruct swim lessons or water aerobics, & give tours of facility as needed; Physically able to sit at a computer station for extended periods of time; Physically able to lift 35+ pounds; Ability to speak distinctly to communicate with customers and staff on the phone or in person; Patience to deal with 5 or more people at the same time; Sound judgment and problem-solving skills for dealing with daily issues in a variety of situations and with people of all socioeconomic levels.

Operations: Meet assignments, deadlines, trainings, meetings, etc.

RELATIONSHIPS TO BE MAINTAINED:

Work with schools, cities, community organizations, & home builders on collaborative programs Recruit, supervise, train, develop, and retain volunteers and staff Recruit & relate to campaign volunteers in a staff leadership role in the Strong Kids Campaign Take leadership role at branch as part of the management team.

EFFECT ON END RESULT:

Ensures the steady growth in aquatics programming numbers & increasing retention of members, as well as growth in the Active Older Adults programming. New programs are developed. Develop and retain capable staff and volunteers. Recognized in the YMCA service area as an expert in your field. Financial Budgeted goals and quality performance standards are met or exceeded.

Salary: $28,000 - $30,000

Additional Compensation Details:

12% paid retirement, medical & dental benefits, life insurance & disability insurance. Generous paid time off program and sick bank are all part of the compensation package.
