Job Description:

The YMCA of Greater New York reaches half a million New Yorkers through programs that focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. We are seeking experienced professionals to provide leadership to our Youth & Family programs and activities at two new branches; the Rockaways YMCA, in Arverne Queens, and the Coney Island YMCA in Brooklyn. Major responsibilities for each position include overall program development, administration, supervision and evaluation of School Age Child Care, After School, Day Camp plus Youth and Teen programs. Details of these exciting employment opportunities are noted below.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Plan, create and supervise new and innovative youth, teen and family programs that meet the needs of the community in keeping with the branch priority objectives and strategic plan.
  • Manage and supervise the submission of all reports to third party agencies to assure timely payment from all agencies.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise all department staff (on and off-site).
  • Serves on the branch leadership team for strategic planning and operations as well as serve as the branch liaison to the Youth & Family, Summer Day Camp and other Association Cabinets as needed.
  • Actively participate in annual Strong Kids fundraising campaign and special events.
  • Develop, track and manage departmental and government contract budgets, in accordance with branch, Association and government agencies requirement.
  • Ensure that staff receives appropriate training that is consistent with professional goals.

Job Qualifications:
  • BA/BS in Education, Human Services, Social Work or related field; MA in Education, Social Work or Non-Profit Management preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience supervising community based youth programs and staff.
  • Knowledge of development and administration of youth programs, supervision concepts and techniques, contract management and grant writing.
  • Strong budgeting skills.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification; RTE trainer.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Proficient in MS Word. AS400 database experience a plus.
  • Ability to work and multitask in a fast paced environment.
