YMCA: Hampshire Regional YMCA

Job Description:

The Hampshire Regional YMCA is seeking a team-oriented and motivated professional to assist Aquatics Director to develop, organize and implement high quality, member-focused YMCA aquatic programs. This is a full-time, exempt position. Primary responsibilities will include supervision of instructors, lifeguards and help with the swim lesson program. The Assistant Aquatic Director will be the Waterfront Director for our Summer Camp on Lake Norwich from June-August. They will oversee all the staff, campers, activities, equipment, and facilities at the waterfront area, including swimming lessons, boating activities and open swims.

The Assistant Aquatic Director coordinates and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.

Job Qualifications:

Minimum age of 21. ARC/ YMCA Lifeguard Certification and all related certifications. Within 60 days of hire, completion of New Employee Training, Child Abuse Prevention, Bloodborne Pathogens.

The candidate must be able to teach all ages and all abilities. Requires swimming and lifeguard certifications (YMCA preferred); strong desire to teach; and experience supervising other employees. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills with emphasis on family member service. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist with the development and tracking of operational budget for Aquatics.
  • Assist with the coordination and marketing the Aquatics department activities.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
  • Provide direct leadership, instruction and motivation to aquatics staff. Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule, coordinate, and supervise staff as needed. Review and evaluate staff performance. Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Ensure staff certification records are current and complete. Co-conduct lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings with Aquatics Director.
  • Monitor daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  • Model relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
  • Teach swim classes and lifeguard as necessary.
  • Assist in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
  • Respond to all member and community inquiries and complaints with a "customer first" approach and within 24 hours.
  • Be the Waterfront Director for our offsite Day Camp on Norwich Lake (in Huntington, Massachusetts), located on 137 pristine acres with a 1/3-mile shoreline on crystal-clear Lake Norwich.
  • Schedule lifeguards for Summer weekends when Camp Norwich becomes the Norwich Family Center.
  • Help the Camp Director schedule swim times and boating time.
  • Other duties assigned by the Aquatics Director.

Salary: $30,000 - $33,000
