Return to Search • Email to a Friend • Print YMCA: YMCA of the USA Location: Chicago, IL Job Description: The YMCA of the USA ELR/FFN Technical Advisor position is be responsible for managing the grant funded project and supporting local YMCAs in developing and implementing the Early Learning Readiness (ELR) program and to assess and gather learning from the experiences of the pilot YMCAs leading to development of tools and resources for all local YMCAs. The Technical Advisor will lead efforts to strengthen the capacity of the YMCA movement to engage, involve and serve informal family, friend and neighbor caregivers and the young children they care for, fostering and improving child development, school readiness, socialization skills, well-being and the Y's ability to broaden it's reach. The Technical Advisor accomplishes all duties in accordance with the mission, goals, and strategic plan of YMCA of the USA and the Membership Support and Program Services Department. This is a grant supported position; contingent upon funding, this position will be supported by a grant until 12/31/14, with the possibility of being extended thereafter. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES - A Bachelor's Degree in Education, Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Recreation, Social Work or related field (or equivalent experience) is required. A masters degree is preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of successful and progressively responsible experience with the YMCA or comparable organization in the area of serving families and young children is required. At least 2 years in a leadership role is required.
- Must be able to travel up to 30% of the time
- Must possess experience with resource management, coaching and mentoring, and providing technical assistance
- Must possess excellent time management skills, self- initiative and ability to take direction
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred
- Must possess proven expertise in early childhood program development and innovation
- Must possess proven capabilities in the area of collaboration, especially using interviewing/questioning and sharing information

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Provides oversight to the accomplishment of project outcomes and objectives over the project period including planning and development
- Builds and enhances national and regional collaborations and partnerships in early learning
- Plans for and implements the evaluation and assessment of the work of the project, working with and monitoring internal and external evaluation partners
- Works with and supports local YMCA pilot staff developing and implementing the new program model
- Works with YUSA Financial Development to develop and execute the RFP's for local Y re-grants, tracking progress and final reports
- Leads the development of new program resources for local YMCA use
- Supports the efforts of local YMCAs through regular direct support, site visits, impact measurement and program assessments
- Provides expertise for local YMCA staff in quality improvement strategies and change management
- Works closely with all relevant YMCA of the USA Departments including International, Diversity & Inclusion, Training & Leadership, Knowledge Publishing, Research & Evaluation and Marketing & Communications in this and related work for local YMCAs
- Establishes and maintains a network of local Y and Y-USA contacts to support the work of the project
- Tracks national early childhood research in conjunction with the research department, providing annual reports on progress and improvement in both the quality and increase of such services
- Develops quarterly recommendations (based on regular formal and informal tracking of YMCAs around the country) for appropriate strategies for supporting and improving the new program model roll out
- Works closely with the YMCA of the USA Resource Development Department to provide needed information, research or data about early learning readiness and informal family, friend and neighbor caregivers
EFFECT ON END RESULTS/STRATEGIC IMPACT The Technical Advisor will lead efforts to strengthen the capacity of the YMCA movement to engage, involve and serve informal family, friend and neighbor caregivers and the young children they care for, fostering and improving child development, school readiness, socialization skills, well-being and the Y's ability to broaden it's reach. Salary: $63,700 - $79,684
