Job Description:

The YMCA of Metropolitan is celebrating 160 years of charitable service to the Washington Metropolitan area. The Y has a strong commitment to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility. The Y is also renowned for its quality fitness and wellness programming. Our YMCA Fairfax County Reston branch is currently recruiting for an Assistant Wellness Director.

Our ideal candidate will assist the Wellness Director in the management and administration of the department, specifically with the group exercise program instructors, personal trainers, and wellness coaches. The ideal candidate will have some experience in all facets of wellness and fitness programming; to include recruiting, training, development, performance management, supervision, education, certification, team building and scheduling of the Wellness Department.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reviews payroll for instructors
  • Manages and meets revenue goals for the department
  • Develops and manages new group fitness programs for retention and revenue
  • Ensures that class participation numbers are adequate for the day, time, and session(s)
  • Communicates with the front desk, switch board and members with regard to schedule changes
  • Ensures that all equipment is maintained in a safe condition or removed from the floor; ensures that it is clean for participants to use
  • Holds a minimum of two educational lectures/workshops for new members/program members
  • Coordinates and manages 2 master classes
  • Establishes group fitness schedule as needed
  • Directly hires, supervises, motivates, and trains staff

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The candidate will have a minimum 1-2 years experience in personal training and/or group exercise instruction
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college/university in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field, and personal training certification through a reputable organization (i.e. ACE, ACSM, NASM)
  • May be required to lead aerobics classes
  • Conduct personal training sessions requiring lifting of free weights up to 50 lbs.

Salary: $35,000 - $35,000
