Job Description:

For more than 160 years the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington has been a vital pillar in the Washington, DC metropolitan area communities. The Y is a pioneering nonprofit organization with a powerful cause and mission to impact communities through our youth development efforts, our healthy living initiatives and our commitment to social responsibility.

We are currently recruiting for a Wellness Director for the YMCA Anthony Bowen which serves the historic U Street and Shaw Community. This revitalized branch is re-opening in a brand new facility that will feature inventive and impactful programs, services and amenities to help meet the needs of DC's dynamic residents. In addition to traditional services, this Y will feature many opportunities for families and individuals to grow have fun and participate in new services such as a demo kitchen to explore nutrition and healthy eating, challenging workouts such as 2 story rock climbing wall, and social events on the roof top patio.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The candidate will be highly motivated and possess a strong understanding of wellness/fitness trends, will have strong customer service skills, and interpersonal skills to motivate, communicate and encourage staff; while connecting members to a lifetime of healthy lifestyle changes through aerobic, wellness and specialty programs.
  • This position is responsible for recruiting, supervising, training and evaluating staff.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The candidate will have (5) five years experience in the fitness industry with at least (2) two years in a supervisory capacity
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college/university in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field
  • Personal training certification through a reputable organization (i.e. ACE, ACSM, NASM)
  • May be required to lead aerobics classes; conduct personal training sessions requiring lifting of free weights up to 50 lbs

Salary: $45,000 - $45,000
