YMCA: Camp Potawotami Branch YMCA

Job Description:

We are seeking a Camp Program Director at YMCA Camp Potawotami. The position will begin on or near August 12, 2013 and requires the person to live on-site at camp. The Camp Program Director is responsible for development and coordination of all Summer Camp, Outdoor Education, Family Camps and Retreat programming. Summer Camp and Outdoor Education are our largest programs.

For 93 years, YMCA Camp Potawotami has provided powerful outdoor experiences for tens of thousands of children and families. Camp creates opportunities to build confidence, make friends, gain a sense of community, and grow in strength of character. Kids and families have the opportunity to spend quality time with each other and with the outdoors in YMCA Camp Potawotami's beautiful 210 acre setting. Located on Blackman Lake near Wolcottville, Indiana; YMCA Camp Potawotami has 200 beds and is a branch of the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develops and implements marketing and promotion plan recruiting campers, schools and retreat groups.
  • Develops and implements new and existing programs and ensures clean, safe facilities.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Holds staff accountable for high quality results.
  • Develops system for on-going evaluation and review of programs in conjunction with schools, groups and individuals.
  • Routinely inspects and replaces all program area equipment as needed.
  • Maintains annual budget, meets enrollment goals and keeps accurate records.
  • Serves as the lead Program Director during the summer camp season, working in conjunction with the Executive Director.
  • Shares and participates as a member of the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne professional staff assisting with the annual Strong Kids Campaign, Program Area Product Development Teams, Healthy Kids Day, etc.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree with the ability to demonstrate considerable skill and experience in program leadership and management. A combination of college coursework and experience may be considered. Experienced in youth camping, outdoor living skills, first aid, and emergency skills.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic backgrounds.
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to program activity.
  • Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist guests in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers. May include, but not limited to, such activities as standing, bending, stooping and stretching.
  • Must be a role model for the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Salary: $28,000 - $35,000

Additional Compensation Details:

We offer competitive compensation and full benefits package, including health and dental insurance, 12% employer funded retirement plan upon completion of 2 years of employment with a YMCA, long term disability, and paid time off. Housing and some meals provided.
