Position Description and Board Expectations:

The Hensel Eckman YMCA seeks a leader to continue to be an ambassador for the mission, goals, and values of the YMCA within the community. The CEO must be actively involved in civic and community groups, respected as a leader, and uphold the highest standards and values exemplified in the YMCA heritage. The CEO must be able to continue the YMCA's impact by staying abreast of trends (membership and programs) and by identifying key issues and challenges facing the whole community (i.e. afterschool activities, childhood obesity, pioneering healthier communities, volunteerism and philanthropy). The CEO must be comfortable with diverse groups and able to move adeptly within various social circles.

The Executive of the Y must be an advocate for the YMCA Vision Within the Community and be an ambassador for the mission, goals, and values of the YMCA within the community. The successful candidate must possess strong operational skills as he or she will be expected prepare and manage an annual operating budget of approximately $450,000, build and manage a staff team, and continue to develop and improve the operating performance of the Y. Additionally, the successful candidate will create a plan to ensure that the YMCA has an outstanding, dedicated, and culturally competent staff, encourage the team by creating a spirit of camaraderie and sense of mission/purpose, establish a culture of inclusion, integrity, character, and be a role model and visible within the YMCA facilities and programs. The successful candidate will possess strong program development skills in order to offer the community a variety of innovative, impactful, and mission oriented programs. These programs are not limited but may include preschool child care, after school programs, aquatics, and a full range of senior adult offerings.

The CEO is also expected to develop and work with a volunteer board of directors. This includes establishing a process involving all stakeholders to create a living strategic plan for the YMCA association, and develop with the board of directors, an ongoing process to monitor board composition and recruitment efforts.

Minimum Criteria for Candidates:

  • Accredited 4-year college degree.
  • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and personal values consistent with the YMCA mission.
  • Minimum three to five years prior experience in a management role with a YMCA or related experience at a comparable organization.
  • Must have the ability to develop and strengthen community relationships.
  • Have the ability to develop new programs, review and enhance programs being offered or considered for both economy and the effectiveness in broadening our engagement in the communities in which we serve.

Preferred Criteria for Candidates:

  • YMCA Organizational Leader Certification (or obtain within 3 years of employment).
  • Fiscally sound business management approach.
  • A proven track record of budgetary and fiscal management.

Salary: $45,000 - $55,000

Additional Compensation Details:

Benefits include the YMCA paying the health insurance premium for individual coverage and participation in the YMCA Retirement Fund at 8% of gross salary. The Hensel Eckman YMCA participates in the YMCA Retirement Fund at 8%, meaning that the Y contributes 5% and the employee 3% through payroll deduction.
