Job Description:

A wonderful opportunity for a dynamic and successful YMCA professional to lead a large, suburban YMCA serving the greater Lakeland area, drawing from a population of over 100,000.

The Lakeland Family Y built in 1977, has undergone many renovations and improvements and now totals 60,000 square feet, including two indoor pools (six lane and warm water pool), wellness center, gymnasium, gymnastics center, family and child watch center, teen and senior center, and new 20,000 sq. ft. school age child care addition in 2002. The branch serves a diverse population of age groups, youth, teens, adults, seniors and families. Branch provides a full-range of membership and programmatic offerings, including wellness, senior programming, youth sports, teen programming, preschool and nursery school, school age child care and extensive summer day camp and member activities, with a budget size of $2.1 million, membership base of 2,500, and total facility size of 80,000 square feet located on 17 acres.

The Executive Director oversees the management of programs, facilities, volunteer and staff development, financial development, and collaborations with community agencies. Responsibilities include: membership retention and overall member satisfaction; facility cleanliness and preventative maintenance, manage operating performance; effective budget development and management, develop highly motivated staff team; engage and partner with key collaborators, lead health and wellness innovation; strengthen community relations; and increase philanthropic support and participation amongst the business community and membership. The Branch Executive Director operates the branch in accordance with the policies, procedures, and standards established by the YMCA of West Central Florida Board of Directors and the Lakeland Family YMCA Branch Advisory Council.

KEY JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Coordinates the development of the branch advisory council and committees.
  • Directs the volunteer activities (policy and program) of the branch.
  • Directs the financial development activities of the branch.
  • Represents and promotes the YMCA in the local community and develops positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.
  • Develops, maintains, and models collaborative relationships with community agencies in service delivery area.
  • Oversees the hiring, training, and supervision of staff.
  • Develops, manages, and monitors the branch operating budget and meet or exceeds budget targets.
  • Directs branch strategic planning efforts and develops the annual operating plan of the branch.
  • Develops and directs high quality relationship-based member engagement strategies.
  • Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions with staff, volunteers, members, and the community.
  • Fosters a climate of innovation to develop member-focused programs which support the Y mission, goals, and strategies.
  • Ensures the safety and maintenance of high quality facilities, grounds, and equipment.
  • Directs branch marketing and communication efforts to effectively communicate benefit to the community.
  • Serves as a member of Y management and supports the overall objectives of the YMCA.

PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor's degree in human services, social services, business or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  2. Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and personal values consistent with the YMCA mission.
  3. Six or more years prior experience in a senior management role with a YMCA or related experience at a comparable organization with direct supervision of staff.
  4. Ability to direct total operations through volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of branch budget, property and facility management, marketing and public relations, membership development, and program development.
  5. Ability to successfully lead fundraising efforts with annual goals of $100,000+.
  6. Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  7. Ability to develop new programs, review and enhance programs being offered or considered for both fiscal viability and the effectiveness.
  8. A proven track record of sound fiscal management.

Salary: $58,000 - $80,000

We offer a competitive compensation and full benefits package, including health and dental insurance, 12% retirement plan upon completion of 2 year vesting period, paid time off, and a complimentary YMCA Membership.
