YMCA: Illinois State Alliance of YMCAs

Job Description:

The Illinois State Alliance of YMCA's Steering Committee (governing body) is looking for an Executive Director who will be responsible for developing, articulating, furthering and implementing the vision and strategic goals of the Illinois State Alliance of YMCAs.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a highly motivated and cause-driven professional to work closely with the Illinois State Alliance of YMCA's Steering Committee and the 48 corporate YMCAs in Illinois. This individual will be responsible for the development and implementation of a strategic vision that considers and capitalizes upon the YMCA's brand identity, voice and cause with the unique ability to coordinate, deliver and execute statewide initiatives that further strengthens the Y's cause in youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Advocacy for the Illinois YMCAs and awareness of Y leadership is a critical component of this position. Current statewide programs include PHC (Pioneering Healthier Communities Initiatives that focuses on increasing play and exercise and better nutrition), Youth Achievement in Afterschool Programming and Statewide Annual Campaign Collaborative.

The strong candidate would have a proven track-record in executive leadership, and coordination of autonomous but related organizations, advocacy with legislators and elected officials, strategic planning and execution, and ability to influence all to join together towards a common theme.

PREFFERED CRITERIAL FOR CANDIDATES:

  • Bachelor's degree in political science; communications or related public policy field from an accredited college or university.
  • At least 5-7 years' experience in public policy, government relations and project management
  • Has directly influenced legislators
  • Has researched, secured and administered grants and or secured funding from foundations and other entities in total excess of $500,000

MINIMUM CRITERIA FOR CANDIDATES:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited college or university.
  • At least 3 years' experience in public policy, government relations and project management.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand, articulate, navigate, and influence the legislative process.
  • Has researched, secured and administered grants and or secured funding from foundations and other entities.
  • Proven track record on the ability to influence others and bring entities together to affect change.
  • Must be professional, self-motivated, proactive, well organized and detail oriented.
  • Must enjoy a collaborative work environment and work well with a team of CEOs and key leadership.
  • Must possess excellent written, oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Must have the ability to work on various duties and issues, and perform multiple tasks.
  • Appropriately and professionally work closely with the State Alliance Chair and Steering Committee.
  • Travel as needed and assigned by the Alliance Steering Committee Commitment to the Mission of the YMCA and its Cause
  • Familiarity with the work of the YMCA or similar not-for-profit.

Salary: $75,000 - $85,000
