Job Description:

GENERAL FUNCTIONS

This position supports the COO as the primary liaison for the national office relationship to small and mid-size YMCAs in an effort to support their work in local communities. The Vice President is also responsible for the overall leadership for all associations to gain and maintain their membership in the YMCA of the USA. The CMS department serves as advocates for and monitors member association's compliance to local, state, federal and YMCA of the USA rules, regulations and best practices. This role will be based in Chicago, IL.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience is required.
  • Organizational leader certification preferred.
  • Requires 10 years of leadership experience, including local YMCA association management.
  • Requires 5 or more years management experience.
  • Superior communication skills including oral and written abilities.
  • Ability to successfully develop and communicate strategies to others.
  • Ability to facilitate meetings and presentations and to bring groups to consensus and decisions.
  • Must be able to work closely with a diverse group of high-profile individuals within member. associations, volunteers, national board directors, and Y-USA executives.
  • Proven ability to facilitate and coach senior executives.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal/written communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to train and coach direct reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence others to achieve objectives.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing environment and circumstances.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Commitment to the YMCA character development values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide direct communication and leadership with small and mid-size YMCAs throughout the movement.
  • Exert influence over Y-USA services to small and mid-size YMCAs in the areas of association resources, training and leadership development, membership/program resources, public policy, marketing, conference/events, diversity and inclusion and innovation.
  • Identify and intervene with high risk and troubled YMCAs, utilizing a comprehensive strategy that is aligned with and collaboratively addressed with association resources department staff.
  • Provide strategy, direction and supervision to Membership Certification staff and the overall association certification efforts of the YMCA of the USA.
  • Provide staff leadership to the National Committee of Membership Standards (NCMS) and related subcommittee structure.

EFFECT ON END RESULTS/STRATEGIC IMPACT

This position is responsible for ensuring positive relationships between Y-USA and small to mid-size YMCAs throughout the country. This will be accomplished by ensuring Y-USA services are meeting the needs of local YMCAs. The position is also responsible for leading efforts to implement, monitor and enforce membership policies and procedures of the YMCA of the USA as determined by the NCMS, and assisting YMCAs in the improvement necessary to maintain YMCA of the USA membership and serve local communities.

Salary: $175,000 - $200,000
