EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
YMCA: YMCA of Greater Charlotte
Location: Charlotte, NC
Job Description:
General Function
Under the direction of the Community Vice President and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Executive Director is responsible for the direct administration and operation of the Simmons YMCA Branch in accordance with its general policies and bylaws of the Branch and the Association.
Know How
- Bachelor's degree.
- Minimum of five years YMCA Executive Director/Associate Executive Director experience or related non-profit work experience.
- Demonstrated ability to produce positive results in areas of program administration, fiscal management, financial development, board & volunteer development and staff supervision.
- Previously successful work experience with diverse populations preferred.
- Must have ability to develop strong, positive relationships with branch volunteers, business and civic leaders and give dynamic leadership to board, staff and the community.
- Professional demeanor and proven supervisory skills in hiring, training, evaluating and motivating staff and volunteers as well as developing an effective staff team.
- Strong organizational skills and a self-starter with initiative to work independently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Passionate commitment to the YMCA mission, member involvement and engagement and the YMCA character values.
Physical Requirements
- Incumbent should be able to: talk, see, hear, walk, and occasionally lift 50 lbs.
Principal Activities
Staff Development
- Inspire and motivate staff through a clear, shared vision.
- Develop and monitor specific, measurable, attainable goals with all staff.
- Goals developed along with budget preparation timeline
- Monitor goals quarterly and adjust accordingly
- Evaluate staff achievement and provide learning opportunities to strengthen areas for improvement.
- Work with direct reports to create individual development plans and insure they are doing the same for their respective teams.
- Understand and consistently administer the branch and Association policies and procedures
- Provide leadership to the various Branch Staff teams in charting direction, planning growth, fiscal management and facility development.
Community Development
- Work in partnership with association staff in the development and execution of the community development goals for the YMCA of Greater Charlotte.
- Collaborates and partners with businesses and community organizations in order to further the work of the YMCA.
- Serve in a leadership role with at least one east Charlotte community civic organization.
- Insure the participation of select staff as YMCA representatives in a variety of on-going community based initiatives that contribute to sustained improvement in broad-based quality of life concerns.
Volunteer and Financial Development
- Staff officer to a 24-member Board of Managers, Executive Committee and Finance Committee.
- Provides leadership and motivation to the board and plays a significant role in recruitment, training and development of board volunteers to ensure a strong and productive board.
- Provide support to the Financial Development Director and Board of Managers that results in successful annual fundraising campaigns and future capital funding efforts.
- Assist staff in successful development of volunteer committees.
Membership/Program Development
- Insure the seamless delivery of membership and programs to all people connected to the Simmons YMCA service area that results in participation increases.
- Increase member retention by enhancing systems that embrace the coaching environment, total health philosophy and servant leader attitude.
- Create innovative experiences to meet the needs of the Simmons YMCA service area.
Fiscal Management
- Develop and manage the operating budget, forecast revenues, control expenses and make adjustments as needed.
- Develop and implement strategies for building revenue reserves.
- Identify new revenue streams through innovative program development and contributed income opportunities.
Effect on End Results
The success and effectiveness of the Executive Director's performance will be measured by mutually agreed upon objectives. Overall effectiveness will result in:
- The degree to which branch goals are achieved
- The degree to which volunteer leadership is involved and engaged
- Community Development remains an integral component of the branch
- Positive relationships are maintained throughout the community (civic, government, business, United Way, etc.)
- A strong cohesive staff team
- Growth in membership and programs
- Growth in annual contributed funds
- Achievement of prescribed quality benchmarks
- Continue brand of the Y as the cornerstone of the Community
- The successful relationship between the branch Board of Managers and the association office.
