ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL FOR INSTRUCTION

Job Description:
The YMCA of Florida's First Coast is nationally recognized for its leadership in youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. We are launching cutting-edge programing, including our new healthy living centers, to help us better serve children, adults and families right here in our neighborhood. Position Summary:
The Assistant Principal for Instruction will be responsible for the improvement of student achievement in all content areas. Specifically, the Assistant Principal for Instruction will work with administrators and teachers to develop and lead key initiatives that will improve instruction and student achievement. The Tiger Academy Assistant Principal of Instruction will work closely with the Principal and Instructional Coach.
Essential Functions:
- Evaluate Tiger Academy's current instructional programs, identify specific areas for growth, and implement aligned strategies to achieve high performance targets.
- Design and deliver necessary and requested training and professional development to Tiger teachers and staff.
- Use available assessment data, school reports, and school information to analyze and identify gaps in student achievement and design opportunities for teachers to improve their instructional practices.
- Evaluate current benchmarks for monitoring student progress and assist in the implementation of data tracking systems so that teachers and administrators can use data to make instructional decisions.
- Provide individual coaching to Tiger teachers staff, principal and other instructional coaches.
- Review and continually improve Tiger achievement goals.
- Collaborate with the Principal and Instructional Coach in planning and facilitating monthly professional development.
- Collaborate with the Instructional Coach in creating and communicating the monthly best practices newsletter for teachers.
- Meet regularly with the Principal, Instructional Coach and Leadership Team.
- Oversee the Response to Intervention model.
- Assist in building and planning professional learning communities to teachers in developing best practices.
- Plan and facilitate trainings for Tiger staff by outside experts.
- Keep abreast of any and all new initiatives in education.
- Model quality instruction for all grade levels served.
- Access and engage other educational experts.
- Respond to requests for assistance and input from the Executive Director, the Principal, and the Instructional Coach.

Job Qualifications:
- Proven elementary experience across a broad range of audiences, a strong background in coaching teachers and administrators, as well as demonstrated results working with underserved student populations.
- Working knowledge of scope, sequence, current research, course content and design, Florida standards, and national core standards.
- Specific experience designing, implementing, and leading training and development programming for a range of audiences.
- Strong understanding of K-12 curriculum and pedagogy, with a particular focus on elementary childhood education.
- Demonstrated ability to use assessment data to measure student performance and target instructional support.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Common Core Standards.
- Demonstrated track record of exemplary performance in a team-based environment with multiple stakeholders.
- Minimum three years teaching experience with low income populations with exceptional results.
- Strong work ethic coupled with an enthusiastic and passionate approach to one's work.
- Highly energetic, hands-on individual with a depth of intellect.
- Strong management skills and the ability to motivate, excite, and educate both internal and external resources.
- Relentless achiever: sets high goals and meets or exceeds them using models of excellence as a guide.
- Focus on results: able to clearly sell and articulate a vision, outline and detail a project plan, and execute against it.
- Ability to work in a dynamic fast paced environment and adept at developing relationships.
- Committed to the philosophy that all students will learn.
- Master's degree preferred, but not required.
Physical Demands:
- Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).
- Acceptable hearing (with or without correction).
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Salary: $45,000 - $60,000
