YMCA: La Jolla Family YMCA

Location: La Jolla, CA

Job Description:

Basic Assignment

Responsible for the general administration of the branch including fiscal management, financial development and operation of the branch in accordance with policies, procedures and standards established by the Association Board of Directors and the La Jolla Family YMCA Board of Management.

Qualifications

Major Functions

Fiscal Management: Develop and manage a $6.8-million operating budget, forecast revenues, control expenses and make budget adjustments as needed. Develop strategies for building revenue reserves; develop a culture within the staff and board for good fiscal responsibility. Build a sustainable operation that creates long-term contributions to branch financial equity and reserves.

Program Development: Responsible for overall membership and program growth. Envision and implement expansion of branch operations to multiple locations. Implement innovative programs. Major programs include a membership of 2,667 units and 5,511 members; aquatics, youth and adult sports; childcare, day camp; teens; gymnastics; Childwatch; health and fitness; Family Y Guides; and community outreach serving more than 2,400 children and their families. Programs are delivered in a 40,000-square-foot facility including an Aquatics Center, as well as a wide variety of fitness programming in an additional 9,000-square-foot facility (La Jolla YMCA Firehouse). Programming is provided to more than 27,000 participants in the service area.

Human Resource Management: Direct supervision of 4 exempt staff and oversight of a workforce of 193 employees.

Volunteer Development: Serve as Staff Officer to a 36-member Board of Management including Executive/Planning, Board Development, Program Development, Finance, Membership & Marketing, and Building & Grounds committees.

Planning: The La Jolla Y branch sits at the edge of establishing a new vision for expanding its services within its territory, the execution of which may include additional locations. Creating this strategic plan in concert with the branch board, building support for this new plan and managing its implementation are currently key skills for this Executive Director. In addition, manage the long-range strategies developed by the Association as well as develop and manage the tactical plans documented in the annual branch operating plan.

Financial Development: Direct annual current support campaign to achieve a goal of $450,000 working with volunteers. Develop and implement plans for endowment funding and recruitment of members to the Heritage Club.

Branch Administration: Accountable for a $6.8-million operating budget. Responsible for the supervision and development of branch employees including a full-time exempt staff of 17, a total full-time staff of 40 and 158 part-time staff. Oversee the management of 130 program volunteers and 250 campaign volunteers; implement programs; direct fundraising campaign and special events. Responsible for facility management and maintenance.

The YMCA of San Diego County is the second largest in the country with an operating budget of $139 million. The La Jolla Family YMCA is one of 16 YMCA branches in the San Diego association. Its service area includes La Jolla, Clairemont, UCSD, University City, Sorrento Valley and Carmel Valley, and it has a population of 201,105.
