EXECUTIVE VP AND COO
YMCA: YMCA of Middle Tennessee
Location: Nashville, TN
Job Description:
Consistent with the Christian mission and Hope for Life Vision of the YMCA of Middle Tennessee, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the CEO, the Executive VP and COO will provide leadership, vision, and direction to the Association with primary focus on external operating units. S/he will partner with the entire senior leadership team and the board of directors to develop and implement the strategic vision plan across the organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supports the YMCA mission and models the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
- Serves, supports, shares, challenges, plans, is "a visionary" as a Senior Team member; serves as a partner in meeting the strategic goals of the organization's Hope for Life vision; supports all of the organizational goals set by the strategic vision and provides leadership and support for the implementation of tactics required to fulfill strategic objectives.
- Ensures outstanding customer/member service and compliance with Association Standards.
- Models and puts into practice behavior that supports inclusion and diversity.
- Represents the YMCA and maintains appropriate relationships with area organizations, community leaders, and businesses.
- Serves as a support and leader in the Annual Giving campaign; directs staff on implementation of this campaign.
- Oversees and supervises all external operating units (currently 34) inclusive of the direct supervision of the Senior and Group Vice Presidents that relate to each operating unit.
- Sets budget targets, monitors performance and takes corrective action when necessary as it applies to all external operating budgets.
- Provides leadership and direction to Association in the areas of program expansion, member recruitment and retention, pricing strategies, IBRS, new site development, risk management, Learn to Swim, collaborations, and mergers and acquisitions.
- Evaluates growth opportunities through market research and produces proforma's, as required.
- Co-leads the Tactical Operations Team, participates on Senior Strategy Team and provides reports to committees, the Board of Directors and the President/CEO.
- Identifies and maintains effective succession strategies to ensure the next generation of leadership; consistent contributor to YUSA COO Group, e.g., best practices, bench-marking, etc.
- Works on special projects as directed.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- This position requires an enthusiastic and passionate individual able to adapt to a continually evolving environment and thrive in an autonomous and deadline-oriented workplace while managing an operations staff.
- S/he must be highly organized, possess superior supervisory skills; demonstrate sound judgment, initiative and independent thinking.
- Must have commitment to the mission and cause of the YMCA and uphold its values and ethics.
- Demonstrated leadership ability, interpersonal skills, team management, budgeting, sound fiscal management, volunteer and staff development.
- Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus excellent organization skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Computer literate (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook Express, internet).
- Knowledge and understanding of community resources and the ability to engage and partner these resources with the YMCA to meet strategic objectives.
- Must be an articulate spokesperson on behalf of the YMCA.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Ability to travel to multiple locations and ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 21 years of age.
- Bachelor's degree in finance or related area; related graduate degree preferred.
- Minimum 15 years experience in an executive/management role in the YMCA (minimum five years at Group VP/SVP level) with full facility responsibility with at least $25 million budget oversight preferred.
- Experience with diverse operations for a complex organization.
- Experience partnering with and making actionable recommendations to senior leadership/ executive staff, resulting in the development and implementation of creative operational strategies.
CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- Pre-hire: complete YMCA of Middle TN application for employment, new hire packet and Praesidium Child Abuse Detection / Prevention training.
- YMCA Organizational Leader certificate preferred.

Salary: $150,600 - $200,800
