DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE

Job Description:
POSITION OVERVIEW
An exciting opportunity to join a growing YMCA located in Montclair, New Jersey (11 miles west of New York City). The YMCA of Montclair has served the needs of our community since 1891. With an $11 million budget and 41 full-time and over 500 part-time/seasonal staff, we serve over 10,000 members from Montclair Township and surrounding areas. We serve as the community hub and enjoy an entrepreneurial reputation with a strong Board and volunteer base.
In partnership with the Director of Development, the Development Associate will oversee all aspects of the YMCA of Montclair's annual philanthropic initiatives through the engagement of community leaders, volunteers, donors, grantees, board members and staff.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans and directs the annual development program including readiness trainings and events, prospect research and development, cultivation activities and volunteer recruitment.
- Leads staff and volunteers to ensure successful annual fundraising campaigns including the Employee Campaign, Member Campaign, Send a Kid to Camp Phone-a-Thon and Thank-a-Thon.
- Plans and executes all aspect of the 1891 Community Gala. Will recruit and lead volunteers for committees, solicit sponsors and create and maintain strict budgets. Will also lend support and assistance to the Montclair Run, including helping with crafting sponsorship levels, soliciting sponsors and event day activities.
- Provides support and assistance to all aspects of the development department as required including, among other things, tracking gifts and writing acknowledgements and creating and maintaining budgets.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree and two plus years working for a non-for-profit in development. Previous event experience is preferred.
- Ability to foster a culture of philanthropy within an organization.
- Ability to exercise effective judgment and resourcefulness in setting priorities.
- Demonstrated skills and abilities to challenge traditional thinking and generate possible new approaches in a manner that is constructive and value-adding.
- Direct experience in relationship building internal and external with volunteers, board of directors and staff. Must be a team player.
- Strong and engaging verbal and written communication skills. Understanding of marketing and branding and how it fits into Development goals. Will work closely with the Marketing Department to reach, cultivate and maintain relationships with donors.
- Strong results-oriented, collaboration, project management and organizational skills. Must also be able to create and maintain strict budgets.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities and direction for others, with an attention to quality and timely delivery of initiatives.
- Willingness to maintain a flexible work schedule consistent with the demands and needs of volunteers, community leaders, and special events.
Salary: $45,000 - $50,000
