Position Description and Board Expectations:

For nearly 155 years, the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee has responded to the changing needs of a dynamic metropolitan area. The YMCA is a mission-driven Organization that has three areas of focus: youth development; healthy living; and social responsibility. The YMCA accepts the challenge to build its capacity to ensure the future of our mission and to respond to emerging needs.

The next leader of the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee must be able to work with the Board of Directors and lead a high-performing team of senior staff by ensuring that staff development and performance leads to superior outcomes in community engagement, philanthropy, quality programs, and member satisfaction. The CEO is expected to be highly visible in the community, ensuring that the Y remain a highly respected and desired partner with a strong stake in identifying and addressing the solutions for community issues.

The new President and CEO will provide leadership to develop a bold vision and strategic direction and align the day-to-day work of the Organization to the accomplishment of the Vision. The CEO must lead the Organization, its staff, volunteer board, and members in advancing and promoting the Y brand and community image while expanding programs and services to address community needs.

The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to create successful and strategic relationships with influential leaders and members of the community as well as an ability to leverage those relationships to enhance support for the Y mission and current capital campaign. The Y's success and future growth is reliant on productive partnerships with not- for-profit organizations, charities, and organizations in the public and corporate sector. Therefore, candidates will be evaluated on their prior experience and success in these areas.

The CEO is expected to be the face of the Organization with the ability to develop and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders while upholding the highest standards and values of the Y. The CEO must maintain a culture of integrity, high ethical standards, accountability and performance, creating a spirit of inclusiveness, mission and cause that reinforces, encourages, and promotes the values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Candidates must be able to understand, support, and drive the philanthropic goals of the Organization (such as Capital, Annual, and Endowment) and practices that assure that public and private resources are available to support operational and capital needs. The successful candidate will build upon and expand the Y's rich, longstanding traditions and service to the community that have given the Y its deserved position of influence throughout the Greater Milwaukee area.

Candidates must demonstrate their ability to identify the competencies and expertise required by the Organization and attract the talent needed to achieve the Organization's goals. This individual will ensure that staff performance and development leads to superior outcomes in programs, member satisfaction, and community engagement.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

The new President and CEO of the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee will be a passionate leader who is genuinely interested in the YMCA's work and who is committed to the mission of the Organization.
