Under the supervision of the State Program Director, the Program Manager responsibilities are to assist the SPD with day-to-day operations of the State Program Office which includes the management of several statewide initiatives. The position is responsible for meeting projects/programs timeline, deliverables and goals including communications with funders, stakeholders, partners, grantees and other staff.

As assigned, the program manager will lead or assist in the planning, designing, implementation and the evaluation of projects/programs for existing or new opportunities related to community health, public-private partnerships, public policy, coalitions and/or collective impacts. Spend significant time cultivating relationships and are able to travel up to 30%-40%. Present oral and written reports and/or slide presentations and take part on local/state taskforces or committees. Participate in professional activities and trainings to develop or maintain knowledge in the areas of healthy living, social responsibility and youth development. This shall be done in accordance with the mission and vision of the New Jersey YMCA State Alliance and the Sate Program Office.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in community/public health or related field.  Master’s degree in public health, exercise science, nutrition, public policy, or public administration preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years successful experience in an academic, municipal or nonprofit organization, preferably one that is recognized for its leadership in public/population health and/or health-related or youth-serving.
  • Successful history in developing and facilitating community collaborations, partnerships or collective impact.
  • Background in advocacy, public policy and/or health/social equity.
  • Experience working with low income, multi-cultural communities and collaborations.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills including public speaking.  Bilingual Spanish desirable.
  • Requires high level of independence and initiative, ability to multi-task and manage complex initiatives.
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office.  Must be comfortable using technology to work remotely in a variety of settings.
  • Requires reliable and consistent personal vehicle access and valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to present self professionally and articulate and model attributes of a healthy lifestyle, as well as, YMCA values of respect, honesty, responsibility and caring. 

1.     Supports the SPD and Strategic Advisor in statewide activities and initiatives in cooperation with RWJF Program Officer and other funders.  Works with SPD to ensure day-to-day operations of the State Program Office are conducted in an efficient and effective manner.

2.     Works with the State Program Office consultants (strategic planning, healthy communities, communication/social media and advocacy/public policy) to develop work plans and strategies for collaborative discussion and decision making.  

3.     Ensures that project/program administration, status, issues and outputs are communicated to SPD, funders, sponsors, stakeholders, committee members and staff and documented appropriately.

4.     Establishes and maintains relationships with key funders, sponsors, stakeholders, partners staff and media.

5.     Provides input on the planning, designing, implementation and the evaluation of projects/programs for existing or new opportunities.

6.     Build relationships within public-private partnerships, collaborations and collective impacts to ensure up-to-date information sharing and further idea development and continuous learning. 

7.     Attends and contributes to all events including conferences, symposiums, sponsored dinners and professional development opportunities. 

 8.     Accepts such other assignments as may be periodically assigned to advance the mission and goals of the New Jersey YMCA State Alliance and the State Program Office.
