Health and Wellness/Gymnastics Program Director

The Burlington Area YMCA is searching for a full-time Health & Wellness/Gymnastics Director.

Develops, organizes and implements high quality, member-focused YMCA health and fitness programs and high quality gymnastics and cheerleading programs.

  1. Bachelor's degree in exercise science, recreation, sports management or related field or equivalent.
  2. One to two years related experience preferred.

  3. Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Program Volunteers; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens.

  4. Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications.

  5. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of
    the community.

  1. Directs, evaluates, and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
  2. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs fitness instructors, personal trainers, personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance annually. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.  Maintain personnel records including appropriate certifications for part time staff.

  3. Establishes and implements new program activities and expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.

  4. Creates and schedules wellness classes. 

  5. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information in a timely manner, may organize and schedule program registrations.

  6. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.

  7. Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.

  8. Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events.

  9. Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.

  10. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.

  11. Assists with Program Committee meetings.

  12. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation
    in program.

  13. Monitors daily operations of the health and wellness areas to adhere to all YMCA health and safety standards and policies. 

  14. Monitor program equipment for repair/replacement as budget permits.

  15. Works closely with Property Manager to coordinate and schedule equipment maintenance and repairs.  Purchases equipment, parts and supplies as required.

  16. Coordinate and run the Livestrong, Delay the Disease, and Silver Sneakers programs.

  17. Work closely with membership operations to coordinate new member orientations and retention plan.

  18. Maintain cleanliness of Gymnastics Facility making sure all cleaning materials are on hand and available for staff and maintenance personnel.

  19. Work with Fire Department to ensure the Gymnastics Facility remains in code and review emergency procedures annually.

  20. Keep in stock all emergency/first aid materials at Gymnastic Facility.

  21. All other duties as assigned.

Develops plans and manages best practices through engagement of team. Effectively creates and manages budgets. Holds staff accountable for high-quality results using a formal process to measure progress.

Personal Growth: Shares new insights. Facilitates change; models adaptability and an awareness of the impact of change. Utilizes non-threatening methods to address sensitive issues and inappropriate behavior or performance. Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills required to perform well; uses best practices and demonstrates up-to-date knowledge and skills in technology.
