The Senior Accountant provides critical oversight as the financial lead for YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program.

The Senior Accountant provides critical oversight as the financial lead for YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program and other chronic disease prevention programs. This position will also support the accounting and reporting on contributed revenue which includes contributions, gifts, and grants received by YUSA. 

EFFECT ON END RESULTS/STRATEGIC IMPACT 

This position provides critical oversight of MSO financial reporting; ensures good stewardship of financial contributions and efficiency of accounting/financial processes.

 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field is required

  • 2-5 years of experience

  • Professional experience in public accounting or health care is preferred

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite especially Excel is required

  • Must possess strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills

  • Must possess strong written and oral communication skills

  • Must be detail-oriented; possess the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

  • Must be working toward or be a CPA

  • Must be comfortable in fast-developing environment as well as willing to take and display initiative in meeting needs of stakeholders

  • Must possess the ability to handle confidential information with great sensitivity

  • Must possess flexibility to cross-train in other functional areas of Financial Services to contribute to special projects

  • Commitment to the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility is required of contract process Ys need to follow

 

 

  • Bank administration including local YMCA liaison, system access and user administration, credit card and check scanner ordering for YMCAs

  • Resource for onboarding new YMCA’s to the programs

  • Train YMCAs on both daily and monthly deposit reconciliation

  • Responsible for Y-USA’s internal monthly financial reporting and financial reporting for local YMCA’s (monthly general ledger report)

  • Billing, reconciliation and collection of Y-USA’s program fees

  • Analyzes and prepares program bank account reconciliations for Y-USA in a timely manner

  • Prepares Balance Sheet reconciliations, identifies and resolves discrepancies in financial records

  • Analyzes budgets, grants and other financial information to project future revenues or expenses

  • Compiles data for financial reports, creates reports/spreadsheets using Excel and other financial software

  • Identifies, recommends and/or implements improvements to systems, processes and procedures to increase efficiency

  • Accurately responds to requests from all levels of management, vendors, consultants and volunteers in relation to procedures and questions

  • Maintains current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards

  • Facilitates a complete and accurate budget for each funded project

  • Collects all funds due to YMCA of the USA from the granting agencies

  • Verifies accurate accounting of all donor pledges

  • Assists in the completion of the annual audit report

  • Interacts with external auditors to ensure timely completion of audit fieldwork

  • Performs other duties as assigned
