Camp Name: Camp Fitch YMCA

Camp Location: North Springfield, PA

Camp Description: Located in the far northwest corner of Pennsylvania near Erie, Cleveland, Youngstown, Pittsburgh, and Buffalo, Camp Fitch boasts nearly one mile of Lake Erie shoreline and over 450 acres of forests, streams, and meadows. Camper capacity in the summer is 385 and 300 in the fall, winter, and spring. Annual operating budget is $2.3M. Major program offerings in the summer include three distinct waterfronts, shooting sports, equestrian sports, making (crafts, handiwork, etc.), nature study, and field games. Camp Fitch serves 65 schools with outdoor education, numerous weekend retreats and parent/child programs as well as programs for adults and children with special needs. Special program development in the next several years is in the area of equestrian programs. Camp Fitch has an outstanding staff team with 10 full time and 15 part-time year-round staff. In the summer, our staff grows to over 100 talented people.

Job Description and Required Certifications: Camp Fitch is at present time organized around three primary program offerings: the Summer Camp Program, the Outdoor Education Program, and the Weekend Retreat Program. The person filling this position will have management and program execution responsibilities in primarily the Outdoor Education and Weekend Retreat programs. Primary challenges of this position include staff development, program design (both creating new and developing existing programs) and program quality assurance. Duties will include management of staff, overseeing program execution and working with the other departments at Fitch (food service, maintenance and business office staff) to execute our mission. The position includes some weekend responsibilities. Job Responsibilities: 1. Works with program staff to execute a shared vision for program expansion to new markets with both new and existing stakeholders. 2. Through conversation, gains empathy with existing partners to strengthen the relationship they have with Fitch and learn how to better serve these partners goals. 3. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve shared goals. 4. Takes on a high-risk/high-reward program area to manage. This management may include hiring staff; becoming proficient in the activities that take place in the program area, risk assessment and management, obtaining relevant certifications, certifying other staff to lead aspects of the program area. Two such program areas of current interest are the Equestrian Program and the Climbing/Challenge-Course Program area. 5. Act as the host for both Outdoor Education and Retreat Groups as assigned. Typically, these are half-week groups, and a typical expectation will be to host one or two of these groups each week. 6. Oversee and participate in cleaning of portions of the facility at times of group interchange. 7. Facilitate mechanisms to measure group satisfaction and mission accomplishment. Respond to the data gathered through program development or modification, staff education, or through other appropriate ways. 8. Assists with fund raising activities that include recruiting volunteers, capturing stories that communicate the case and assisting with special events. Job Qualifications: 1. Motivation and ability to role model and teach the Christian values that reflect the mission of the Youngstown YMCA. 2. Bachelor’s degree in recreation, education, human services, natural resource or related field. 3. Two years of relevant experience in resident camping, youth development, or outdoor recreation. 4. Ability to participate in a collaborative environment while still directing and supervising staff. Collaborators include both staff and volunteer group leaders (e.g. teachers, high-school and college students). 5. Possess a creative and inquisitive growth mindset with a demonstrated record of program creation for children or adults. 6. Willingness to live onsite in camp-provided housing. 7. CPR and First-Aid certification. 8. Ability to lift 50 lbs from the floor to a table-top. 9. Ability to spend the day walking over camp’s 450 acres (up to a mile of walking per day). 10. Ability to stand for up to an hour at a time on hard surfaces while teaching various skills to campers.

Salary Information: $25,000 annual salary, housing, meals, 12% retirement when qualified and other benefits described in the personnel policies.
