Camp Description: Since 1913, the lives of thousands of children and teens from all walks of life have been impacted by their experiences at YMCA Camp Manitou-Lin. From its humble beginnings, when 40 acres was donated by then Y Board President Mr. Herman Liesveld in 1912, to today’s 160 acres, Camp truly reflects its Ojibwa Indian moniker “where the Great Spirit lives.” Located on beautiful Barlow Lake, YMCA Camp Manitou-Lin welcomes over 10,000 children, teens, and families each year. In 2012, YMCA Camp Manitou-Lin celebrated its 100th anniversary with events for the community, friends, family and alumni. YMCA Camp Manitou-Lin was founded after a 16-year Y camping program for Grand Rapids boys was first held at Green Lake in 1897. From then until 1912, camp was held in temporary locations from Green Lake, Whitefish Lake, and Mona Lake, to Spring Lake, and on the Muskegon River near Croton.

Job Description and Required Certifications: The Camp Manitou-Lin Executive Director is responsible for the operations of Camp Manitou-Lin, with a budget size of $1.3 million. The Executive Director oversees the management of programs, facilities volunteer and staff development, and collaborations with community agencies in meeting the needs of its members and program participants. The Director operates the branch in accordance with policies, procedures, and standards established by the YMCA Board of Directors and the Camp Manitou-Lin Branch Board of Managers. This position will involve early morning, evening, weekend, and on-call responsibilities. KNOW HOW Bachelor’s degree (BA) from four year college or university; five to seven years YMCA professional work; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Masters degree preferred. YMCA Senior Director Certification preferred. Proven track record in developing, managing and delivering high quality resident camp operations and programming. Past supervision, budget, fundraising, and program experience required. Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles. Working knowledge of computers and experience with a variety of software applications. YMCA experience preferred. CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATION YMCA Senior Program Director certification, or equivalent preferred Executive Professional Director certification, or equivalent preferred Cardio Pulmonary Recitation (CPR), preferred First-aid certificate, preferred PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES Fiscal Management *Develops, manages, and monitors the camp operating budget *Manages annual budget development, monitors monthly budget and year-end forecast for all program areas *Operates program areas within directives and policies of the Association *Serves as staff liaison to board finance committee and other committees or task force assignments as necessary *Maintains systems of financial control including revenues, expenses, and inventories Financial Development *Responsible for targeted revenue production commensurate with established budgetary expectations *Manages and delivers the Camp Annual Campaign, United Way contributions, Heritage Club, Kids to Camp campaign and other fundraising initiatives as necessary *Provides leadership for Capital Development initiatives *Develops and maintains relationships with current and potential funding sources, both private and public Program and Community Development *Manages, develops and monitor’s program growth *Develops innovative program efforts with an emphasis on resident camp offerings *Expands program services *Works closely with Association marketing team in developing all camp marketing materials *Responsible for the implementation of services and strategies that address annual retention and occupancy expectations *Handles parent and member concerns, inquiries and complaints as necessary Human Resource Management *Manages 5 full time staff, 70 seasonal staff and 200 volunteers *Manages the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of all Camp program departments *Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Association’s policies and applicable laws *Sets goals and objectives for each staff member *Makes annual salary increment recommendations *Audits payroll reports *Fills staff vacancies in accordance with established Association policies *Supports the Association in recruitment of diverse staff and volunteers *Interviews, hires, and trains staff; plans, assigns, and directs work; rewards and disciplines staff; addresses complaints and resolves problems Facility Management *Responsible for the overall safety, security ,and general operations *Responsible for the overall cleanness of the facility and grounds *Maintains all areas in clean, presentable fashion *Assures Camp Manitou-Lin facilities and grounds are maintained and utilized in accordance with the needs and amenities in delivering a world class resident camp experience Volunteer Development *Serves on the Program Committee *Facilitates all Board of Manager meetings *Recruits, trains, and rewards a diverse volunteer group *Cultivates volunteers from the membership base and community Performs any other functions deemed to be necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids
