Job Description and Required Certifications: The Chinatown YMCA is seeking qualified individuals who will assist in the successful operation of the Summer Camp programs. The Special Needs Counselor will be responsible for leading, teaching and integrating campers with special needs in the regular schedule camp activities. Responsibilities: Ensure the health, safety and well-being of children in the program by providing close supervision of all activities and adhering to the programs emergency policies and procedures. Provide teaching in applied behavioral analysis. Participate and administer recreational/youth development activities for special needs children between the ages of 6 11 years old. Assist in the planning and implementation of integrating special needs campers into the regular day to day schedule. Ensure that activities and events are age appropriate and meet the academic, social and cognitive needs of the campers. Provide a safe and fun environment for participants in the summer camp program. Assist in planning activities and events that are exciting, challenging and value based. Ensure that the guidelines regarding summer trips and travel are adhered to. Adhere to all Y Camp, Youth, Teen, HR and Risk Management standards, as well as Department of Health (DOH) and Out of School Time (OST) standards (if applicable). Participate in planning and implementation of all camp activities, including but not limited to summer learning initiatives, field trips and in-camp events. Regularly communicate to guardians through clear and positive verbal messages. Keep immediate supervisor informed daily of any concerns or problems concerning campers and facilities. Perform specific scheduled assignments, including but not limited to swimming, lunch duty and arrival and/or departure. Attend 30 hours of pre-camp staff training. Fully support Summer Learning Initiatives. Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Education, Psychology, Special Education and/or related field is preferred. Two years of experience in special education and/or related field. Current CPR/AED certification. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge of youth development, behavioral and physical disabilities.
Salary Information: $8.88 P/H - $11.10 P/H
