Job Description and Required Certifications: The Cross Island YMCA is seeking qualified individuals who will assist in the successful operation of the Summer Camp team. Gymnastics Recreation Specialists have the opportunity to work with many different campers and counselors during the summer, teaching young people unique skills and exploring their talents. She/he will be responsible for developing curriculum, lesson plans and introducing children to the gymnastics concepts. Primary Responsibilities: Introduce children to the basic fundamental concepts of gymnastics. Assist in safely setting up, removing and inspecting equipment. Assist in safe and proper spotting of drills and perform drills and demos pertaining to gymnastics. Weave healthy lifestyle concepts into each lesson (nutrition, lifelong exercise habits, etc.). Ensure that gymnastics program is in compliance with YMCA standards and policies. Provide leadership, teaching or instructional ability within a specific field or discipline. Supervise, participate, and administer recreational activities for children in grades Pre-K to 8. Provide a safe and fun environment for participants in the Summer Camp program. Plan activities and events that are exciting, challenging and value based. Work cooperatively with professional staff, counselors and other departments. Keep records of lessons and attendance. Follow all guidelines regarding summer trips and travel. Adhere to all Y Youth and Teen Program standards. Secondary Responsibilities: Participate in planning/involvement of special activities such as theme days, field trips and all camp activities. Perform specific scheduled duties such as swimming lookout, arrival and departure and lunch duty. Attend 30 hours of pre-camp staff training. Fully support Summer Learning Initiatives. Qualifications: High school education; college preferred. 2 years of experience coordinating program specific activities, preferably in an academic, after school, camp or recreational setting.
Salary Information: $10.00 P/H - $15.00 P/H
