Camp Description: The YMCA of Greater New York is the largest youth-service organization in NYC. The organization has grown to encompass 23 branches and more than 140 sites throughout the five boroughs of New York City in addition to three camp sites and an upstate conference center.

Job Description and Required Certifications: The Long Island City YMCA is seeking a qualified individual who, under the leadership off the Camp Coordinator and Camp Director, will be responsible for providing leadership to the overall supervision and successful execution of one of the units in the day camp. Responsibilities: • Supervise counselors; monitor performance and provide support, while holding staff accountable for performance expectations. • Be knowledgeable in all aspects of the job by keeping him/her-self informed as to what is happening within the groups they supervise. • Provide assistance or coverage for staff within the groups they supervise as required. • Be able to motivate staff and keep up morale. Promote camp spirit within camp. • Be a consistent role model for staff and campers. • Ensure that facility is kept clean and safe, based on the Y standards and Risk Management requirements, so that children are in a safe and comfortable environment. • Ensure that camp staff and campers know and follow safety procedures during camp programs. Report all incidents in accordance with the Y policies and procedures. • Ensure that all staff follow the guidelines regarding summer trips and travel. • Adhere to all Y Camp, Youth, Teen, HR and Risk Management standards, as well as Department of Health (DOH) and Out of School Time (OST) standards, if applicable. • Participate in planning and implementation of all camp activities, including but not limited to summer learning initiatives, field trips and in-camp events. • Work with counselors to develop and implement engaging and educational program elements, including but not limited to STEM, Move to Improve and summer reading. • Regularly communicate to guardians through clear and positive written and verbal messages. • Participate in the development and facilitation of camp training. • Attend 30 hours of pre-camp staff training. Qualifications: • High school graduate with some college coursework desired. • Minimum of two years of work experience. • Must be 20 years of age or older. • Must be prepared to go into the pool!

Salary Information: $543.75+ P/W
