Camp Description: Camp Independence is a special place for campers age seven and up with spina bifida and other neurological disabilities. Like many Y programs, Camp Independence is about learning skills, developing character and making friends. But few environments are as special as camp, where kids become a community as they learn both how to be more independent and how to contribute to a group.

Job Description and Required Certifications: Job Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Program Director, the Assistnat Program Director will to train staff, observe camper behavior and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques. Identify and respond to hazards in camp; such as emergency plan implementation (fire, evacuation, illness, injury). Ability to work with different age and skill levels of staff and campers. Able to plan, organize and implement camp programs and activity. Scope of Responsibilities: Assist the camp director, in organizing the over-all program structure. Organize and implement the horseback riding program. Assist in driving the vans for any out-of-camp trips. Make sure medical forms, medications, food and equipment have been loaded for departure. Serve as positive role model for staff and campers set example of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility. To act as a resource person for the counselors and other management team staff. Provide leadership staff to training. Lead and run evening activities with other management team members. Responsible for camper discipline. Responsible for the supervision and up keep of camper discipline record book. Serve on management team, supervise counselors and share OD responsibility. Collect, read and mail on time each session�s picture postcards & parent letters. Organize and run skill period sign-up, with management team members. Assist with scheduling for the following week, over all schedules and skill period schedules. Lead camp clean up on check out days & check cabins after cabin clean up. Organize camper rules on all check-in days. Serve as support and mentor to counselors. Run and organize morning breakfast meetings. Maintain high levels of safety standards and enforce all rules for campers and staff. Maintain a positive attitude and refrain from behavior that is detrimental to the staff team and staff moral. Communication is the key! Keep the camp looking nice-pick up litter it can be contagious. Deal with any staff management issues promptly. You are committing to report any staff issues to the Camp Director immediately. You are expected not to ask your staff to do anything that you would not do yourself. Conduct mid-summer and end summer evaluations for counselors. Requirements: Must be 21 years of age. 3 years of college or equivalent experience. At least 1 summer prior camp experience. Proven abilities to working with children and camp organization. Experience and skills in a variety of camp activities. Ability to lead and direct staff.
