Camp Description: Camp Birkett, an ACA accredited program, has provided traditional day camping on the shores of Silver Lake in Dexter for over 80 years. Camp Birkett is the ideal place for children to experience the summer outdoors. It is also the perfect place to introduce children to camping without them sleeping away from home. Campers have the opportunity to participate in activities like canoeing, sailing, swimming, arts and crafts, archery, nature, sports, low ropes team building and much more. Each session has a unique theme, so there is something for everyone to enjoy. Camp facilities include a basketball court, archery range, athletic fields, waterfront and watercraft areas.

Job Description and Required Certifications: GENERAL FUNCTION Under the direction of the Youth and Teen Director and the policies of the Ann Arbor YMCA, the Camp Birkett Director will be responsible day to day camp operations including, but not limited to, camper wellbeing, activity planning, staff supervision, program development and facility management. REQUIRED AND DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Three year’s worth of experience in a youth related field and at least two years of post high school education required. At least one year of experience leading camp or youth programs, including staff supervision duties, desired. Experience in office organization and equipment including basic computer programs like word and excel is required. Experience in facility management desired. PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES Program Development: Facilitate Camp Birkett activities in a safe, organized manner. Organize, supervise and deliver program components. Maintain compliant status, through ongoing site and program evaluation, of State Licensing and American Camp Association accreditation. Maintain current, and support the development of new, Camp Birkett programs including Leaders in Training, overnights and weekend programs. Facility Management: Ensure Camp facilities are in safe working order prior and during camp. Evaluate facility daily and communicate needs to Youth and Teen Director. Be responsible for the scheduling of staff to clean facility as necessary. Member Retention: Respond to the needs of members by working with camp staff, parents and campers to provide a camping experience in accordance with the YMCA core values; Caring, Honesty , Respect, and Responsibility . Volunteer/Staff Development: Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate Camp Birkett staff. Fiscal: Assist the Youth and Teen Director in the development and delivery of the Camp Birkett budget. EFFECT OF END RESULT 1. Recognition of the YMCA as a leading provider of day camps for area youth. 2. Recognition of the YMCA as the leading provider of leadership training for area teens. 3. Make an impact on the lives of campers through programs focused on positive Youth Development.

Salary Information: $12.00-$15.22 an hour.
