Camp Al-Gon-Quian is the Ann Arbor YMCA’s overnight camp for campers ages 6 through 16. Offering traditional camp programs of one to two weeks throughout the summer and some seasonal programs, Camp Al-Gon-Quian has become a home away from home for many of our campers throughout our 85-year history. The camp is located on Burt Lake in Northern Michigan, just east of Petoskey and about a four-hour drive north of Ann Arbor. Our 150-acre campus is a combination of forest, playing fields, original and updated buildings, breathtaking shoreline and even a natural spring!

Job Description and Required Certifications: The Ann Arbor YMCA is seeking a Sailing Instructor for Camp Al-Gon-Quian for Summer 2014! These individuals will lead all sailing programs throughout the summer season at this residential children’s camp on Burt Lake in Northern Michigan. This includes: 1. Ensuring a safe environment for the campers and staff at all times. 2. Management of sailboat fleet of three Laser Picos and four Hunters 3. Orchestration of daily lesson plans – 2 hours in the morning and 2 in the afternoon—for young sailors ages 8-16 4. Also live and work as a cabin counselor, directly interacting with a group of girls or boys and being a strong role model. Staff members must have sailing knowledge & experience, understand safety protocol, strong decision-making skills, kids skills and the ability to work with a variety of individuals. Staff training begins at camp on Saturday, June 14. Some funding may be available to subsidize and certifications needed. Certifications and Qualifications: • Must be 18 years old by 6/21/2014 • Lifeguarding Certification o (includes first aid and CPR) • US sailing instructor certification preferred

Salary Information: $215/week base
