Camp Description: The mission of Camp Speers-Eljabar YMCA is to serve a diverse community and to build spirit, mind, and body through a unique combination of Summer Camp, Outdoor Education, Conference and Local Community Programs. Our goal is that each camper and program participant leaves our camp a better person than when they arrived, and campers are set on the path to do the right things and contribute to a better world as they continue to grow.

Job Description and Required Certifications: Camp Speers Eljabar YMCA Position Description Position: Speers Waterfront Coordinator Desired Qualifications: • Minimum 21 years of age. • Summer Camp experience preferred. • Current Lifeguarding Certificate required. • Instructors card to teach lifeguarding class is preferred. • Excellent written and oral communication skills. • High energy, enthusiastic, creative person with a great spirit of summer camp. Responsible To: Program Director, Waterfont Director General Responsibility: To plan, direct, and supervise the Camp Speers Waterfront. Specific Responsibilities: • Set up waterfront area, including marker lines, buoys, waterfront equipment, and first aid equipment in a safe and effective configuration. • Understand, follow and train all staff in the routines and procedures for their respective waterfronts. • Supervise and train all camp staff in the performance of emergency drills and waterfront operating procedures. • Lead demonstration of the LPD procedure for all campers every session. • Ensure that all waterfront equipment is properly used and cared for by all staff. • Evaluate and grade (green, red or blue) within the set of qualifications each camper’s and staff member’s swimming ability. • Review and develop lesson plans with staff to ensure fun and quality. • Supervise and evaluate staff teaching swim lessons, canoeing, sailing, and kayaking to ensure a quality lesson is taught at all times. • Develop schedules for all waterfront staff. • Coordinate schedule and provide lifeguards to coincide with regulations for all free swims, cabin swims and any other waterfront usage. • Plan, coordinate, and implement staff waterfront usage in same safe manner. • Assure that waterfront standards are met at all times in accordance with our risk management policy and various regulating agencies. • Operate safe and fun waterfront at all times. • Team player in organizing evening camp programming and other special events. • Work as a key team player as an administrative staff to assure that a safe, fun and quality program is provided in all areas to all campers and staff. • Drive out of camp trips as needed . • Monitor and lead meal time procedures. • Prepare an evaluation and summary of current season including inventories, end of summer report, and recommendations for the following season. • Assist in defining and monitoring the crisis/risk management plan, including emergency procedures especially as related to respective camp. • Assist in monitoring safety and all procedures as they pertain to the complete supervision of all campers and staff on the waterfront. • Help provide an atmosphere for developing good morals and well-being among the camp family. • These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassigned and other duties may be assigned as required. Essential Functions: • Ability to communicate and work with individuals or groups participating in summer camp, and provide necessary instruction to campers, parents, and staff. • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to all summer camp activities. • Ability to communicate and train staff and campers in safety regulations and emergency procedures. • Ability to become First Aid and CPR Certified. • Ability to observe camper and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety. • Ability to identify and respond to hazards, weather emergencies, etc. • Ability to plan, conduct, and supervise activities and programs for groups of 10-200 people. • Ability to operate motor vehicles and meet the safe driving requirements of the association.
