Job Description and Required Certifications: Develops, organizes and implements all aspects of the Camp Kern Summer Camp Program to provide a safe, healthy, unique environment for children and families to learn and grow in spirit, mind and body. Essential Functions: 1. Directs, supervises and monitors Summer Camp operations and program activities to meet Camp Kern and YMCA objectives and adhere to state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations. 2. Develops, monitors and effectively forecasts program budgets to meet fiscal objectives. 3. Oversees operations of all summer/resident camp programming including but not limited to: Main Camp, Taste of Kern, First Camp, Specialty Camps, Adventure Camp, CIT, LIT, and other programming as designated. 4. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates effectiveness of and participation in the program. 5. Supervises and develops programming with the Adventure Coordinator to implement successful teen programming, weekend expeditions, seasonal camping, family programming and more. 6. Oversees that appropriate records are maintained including program registration, staff and attendance rosters, and equipment. 7. Creates the schedule and program activities to meet the demands of guests and Camp Kern objectives. 8. Hires, monitors, supervise, and evaluate appropriate staff including but not limited to summer camp counselors, adventure coordinator, weekend staff, specialty camp counselors, international staff, etc. 9. Serves as Camp Kerns International Staff liaison in conjunction with the International YMCA and other staffing agencies. Recruit, Hire, train and Assist with cultural transitions to working and living in the Unites States. 10. Ensures all staff and volunteers are trained properly and in accordance to YMCA, Camp Kern, YUSA, and other governing guidelines. Orient all new staff and volunteers to the guest first philosophy and Camp Kerns Commitment to Excellence. Qualifications: Education and Certifications A 4-year college degree in parks and recreation, education, camp management or a related field preferred. A 2-year college degree or applicable experience required. Online New Employee Orientation, Child Abuse Prevention, and Blood borne Pathogens within 30 days of employment. Child Abuse Prevention and Blood borne Pathogens to be refreshed every 12 months. CPR/AED, First Aid, and Oxygen required within first 60 days of employment and kept current. Experience 1 year minimum of summer program management is strong preferred. 2 - 3 year of supervisory experience is required including the ability to recruit, train, motivate, and supervise staff as well as the ability to work with committees. Must hold a valid drivers license, insurable drivers record according to the YMCAs insurance carriers, and have reliable transportation to travel for business meetings, training events, YMCA site visits, vendors and suppliers, etc. Ability to reside in Camp Kern on-site housing year round is required. Computer skills needed, particularly with Microsoft Office and email applications, along with ability to learn the internal YMCA software.
