CAMP COUNSELOR Camp Name: Westside YMCA Camp Location: Tulsa, OK Camp Description: Located next to Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness Area, the Westside YMCA has 30 acres of outdoor property ideal for Day Camp. They also have a gymnasium, nature center, pavilion, pool, & bathhouse. The camp has approximately 300 campers each week. Sponsoring YMCA: Westside Branch YMCA YMCA Location: Tulsa, OK Job Description and Required Certifications: JOB TITLE: Day Camp Counselor BRANCH: Westside Family YMCA CONTACT PERSON: Nicole Thompson TELEPHONE: 918-728-3926 CLASSIFICATION: Summer 2013, Seasonal Non-Exempt SALARY RANGE: $7.50 per hour REPORTS TO: Day Camp Director CLOSING DATE: May 17, 2013 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Must be 18 years of age or older Must be an example of good moral behavior Basic First Aid and CPR certification current or obtained as soon as possible Desire to work with children on a daily basis EXPERIENCE Required at least 3 months working and/or volunteering with children ages 5-17 Prefer one or more years of college in a related field (i.e. recreation, child development, psychology, etc.) JOB REQUIREMENTS: Responsible for assigned group of 10-15 campers ages 5-17 and will be responsible for the group at all times while in the care of the YMCA Responsible for providing diverse program experiences for assigned group during camp Be responsible for maintaining discipline in assigned group, as well as other campers as needed Be prepared to discuss with parent any experience a child has at camp Be available for staff meetings and trainings as scheduled Must be motivated and able to implement oral and written instructions Must be able to communicate respectfully and effectively with superiors, co-workers, and children ages 5-17 Must be physically able to lift a child (if necessary) Must be able to evaluate situations and make decisions within established policies and standards Candidate must be energetic, outgoing, and interested in being a positive role mode to young children Candidate must possess ability to be flexible and adjust to changing work environment Candidate must possess creativity, initiative, and willingness to learn and implement new ideas Requires considerable attention and alertness to safety hazards Other related duties as assigned and perform all duties with honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility Salary Information: $7.50 per hour, 40 hour work weeks.
