Camp Description: The New York YMCA Camp serves a diverse group of children composed mostly of New York City children in a globally diverse community built upon the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Our goal is for each child to enjoy safe adventures, make new friends and have joyful experiences every day. The New York YMCA Camp is located on 1,100 forested acres 86 miles northeast of New York City where New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania share a border.

Job Description and Required Certifications: The NY YMCA Camp is seeking for experienced individuals who will assist in the overall management and leadership of the YMCA Camps program. The Counselor will oversee a cabin and groups of campers in daily camp activities. S/he will lead, motivate and provide a safe camp program which fosters childrens social, spiritual, physical, and intellectual growth. RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide a safe, clean, and healthy environment for the campers assigned to your group. Provide supervision and guidance, ensuring all have a joyful and beneficial experience. Create strong cabin unity through shared experiences, nightly vespers, and daily teambuilding. Teach assigned activities, motivating campers to participate in organized, safe, and fun activities. Communicate any concerns, or problems relating to campers or facility, to your immediate supervisor. Manage camper issues or activities. Take steps to correct poor behavior and refer problems to your supervisor when necessary. Recognize and acknowledge good behavior throughout the day and notify your supervisor of any campers consistent good behavior. Supervise campers at all times. Work with campers to keep the cabin clean during cabin clean up time. Follow camp policies and procedures at all times while performing duties. Meet with your supervisor weekly to discuss your performance, agree upon area for improvement and to address any concerns. Plan and organize cabin activities. Work with the program director to plan and run activities. Assist in the planning for the Friday Finale. Plan and prepare campers to participate in event. Help with planning a Special Event Day. Actively participate in all designated meetings. QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 18 years of age.
