Job Description and Required Certifications: The New York YMCA Camps is seeking for qualified individuals who will assist in the overall management and leadership of the YMCA Camps program. The Division Leader is primarily responsible for the supervision of a collective age group of campers. S/he will assist in maintaining and improving the quality of cabin life and retention of participants and in the supervision of camp employees and/or volunteers. RESPONSIBILITIES: Be a consistent role model for staff and campers. Motivate camp staff and maintain a positive, professional attitude throughout the duration of the summer program. Coordinate and organize program activities. Provide assistance or coverage for staff within the village as required. Manage camper issues. Take steps to correct poor behavior, and refer problems to the Village Director as necessary. Recognize and acknowledge good behavior throughout the day. Create schedules and prepare camper cabin assignment list for each session. Inspect cabins and squad details each day to ensure the cleanliness, safety and health of each cabin and its surrounding area. Check the cabins, bathroom and general village areas each day for any maintenance problems. Supervise staff and campers during meals, assemblies, whole camp activities and their time in the village. Lead an inter-camp committee. Plan, prepare and lead village activities, evening programs, chapels and campfires. Plan and coordinate at least one Special Event Day. Meet with counselors, weekly, to give positive feedback and constructive criticism. Write mid-summer and final evaluations. Actively participate in all designated meetings. Set up campgrounds, cabins and program areas. QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or equivalent. Two to three years of experience working with children, preferably in a camping or residential environment. Experience supervising staff. Proven recreation leadership skills.
