SAILING INSTRUCTOR Camp Name: Ann Arbor YMCA Camp Al-Gon-Quian Camp Location: Burt Lake, MI Camp Description: Camp Al-Gon-Quian is the Ann Arbor YMCAs overnight camp for campers ages 6 through 16. Offering traditional camp programs of one to two weeks throughout the summer and some seasonal programs, Camp Al-Gon-Quian has become a home away from home for many of our campers throughout our 87-year history. The camp is located on Burt Lake in Northern Michigan, just east of Petoskey and about a four-hour drive north of Ann Arbor. Our 150-acre campus is a combination of forest, playing fields, original and updated buildings, breathtaking shoreline and even a natural spring. Sponsoring YMCA: Ann Arbor YMCA YMCA Location: Ann Arbor, MI Job Description and Required Certifications: These individuals will lead all sailing programs throughout the summer season at this residential childrens camp on Burt Lake in Northern Michigan. This includes: Ensuring a safe environment for the campers and staff at all times; Co-management of sailboat fleet of three Laser Picos and four Hunters; Orchestration of daily sailing lessons 2 hours in the morning and 2 in the afternoon for young sailors ages 8-16; Also live and work as a cabin counselor, directly interacting with a group of girls or boys and being a strong role model. Staff members must have sailing knowledge & experience, understand safety protocol, strong decisionmaking skills, kid skills and the ability to work with a variety of individuals. Staff training begins at camp on Saturday, June 15. Some funding may be available to subsidize any certifications needed.
